Big game today. With a win today, the Cubs can get back to single digit games under .500. They can also stave off falling behind double digits in the division.

It's 30 minutes til gametime, and I guess everyone is too nervous about the monumental consequences of this game to post the gamethread. I'm so anxious about this game that I'm going to NOT watch it in fear that it will be too much for my relatively healthy heart.

Interesting that Lee has not started at 1B since the Zambrano game.

Interesting in what way? In the inconsequential not related to that incident at all way? I agree.

Did that just happen? Seriously, clean house and get rid of these contracts and get younger and build the team around Colvin and Castro

Colvin hitting lefties for power...

trade Fukduome ASAP, I'm convinced he should start everyday.

I'm not convinced at all he'll be successful at it, but I am certainly convinced he should be given the chance.

I couldn't agree more. I'm very worried by the fact that Colvin strikes out a ton, but he has shown much more power than I expected and he should be given a chance to prove whether he can perform well over an extended period of time.

It's becoming clear that Colvin needs to be in the lineup just about everyday from here on out. It's too bad that 4 of our top 5 offensive players are in the OF this year and that replacing one the 3 OF with Colvin right now likely won't make the team all that much better when considering it means one of Byrd/Fuk/Soriano is out of the lineup when Colvin is in. Who would be easier to trade in terms of not having to pay much, if any, of their remaining contract and also being able to get back something of value, Byrd or Kosuke?

Even though he has been striking out a good amount, he has shown an ability to still take a walk and work a count which is something that his career minor league numbers wouldn't have predicted.

I wouldn't exactly say he's shown an ability to take a walk. It's not wretched, but he's not walking much.

He's not walking at Barry Bonds rates, but 11BB in 130PA for him isn't all that bad considering he literally never walked in the minors. Given a full season of ab's he is on pace for around 50BB which isn't horrible.

He's hitting .285 and his OBP is .335. That's not horrible, but it's pretty bad.

I agree he is never going to have a great OBP, but his OPS is currently over .900. I was never high on him in the minors and I still am not sold that he is much more than a good 4th OF but at this point in the season I think he should be given more starts to see what type of player he can be.

Few players are good at everything. I'd say it's pretty mediocre - I don't know if I would say it's pretty bad - but maybe that's just sematics. He'd be around 51 or 52 out of 90 qualified batters. I assume if you compared him against just RF's he would probably fare worse. Regardless if that was the price of 40 hrs a year I could live with it - and I'm not suggesting he's a lock for that kind of power but i'd say this is a good year to find out.
