What was Z mad at? Was there an error in the first?

Pierre started off the game with a double past Lee that he could've gotten a glove on, but didn't. White Sox then swarmed Z for four runs in the inning, and Z yelled at Lee in the dugout.

I'm still not sure that was even the case, since it was by no means a routine play for Derrek Lee. Z may have just been acting like an idiot because he was upset with himself and maybe Lee stood up to him. It seems to be all speculation at this point.

You give way too much credit to Carlos Zambrano.

Well at least we only owe him 36 million dollars over the next two years. I'd comment about the player option in 2013, but I'm thinking he's not going to be in Cy Young contention to worry about that

Does Lou get canned if we get swept this weekend? He almost has to, right?

Hendry won't fire him, and it wouldn't help. What we need is a fire sale.

I want both.

Hendry's a lame duck GM, though. I don't think an all-out fire sale is coming.

If ownership calls for it, I'm not sure he'll have much of a choice, other than to resign.

And an all-out fire sale isn't realistic, with some of the contracts the Cubs have. But shipping Lee, Lilly, Silva, Theriot, Nady and maybe Fukudome would be helpful (for next year).

Absolutely, I'm all for a complete overhaul. That's really the only thing I'll accept at this point.

Nobody knows the Ricketts well enough yet, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see. It's completely obvious that this team is dead in the water, though. There's no resurrection coming here. I don't know how the Sox did it, but just because they somehow overcame their terrible start doesn't mean we are. There's just nothing to really like about this team, outside of the outfield and Marmol. Everyone else can go and I wouldn't shed a tear.

That would be nice, but trading Z and Ramirez would be problematic at best, and moving Sori is pretty much impossible. This season is done for sure, but a complete overhaul probably isn't going to happen. Trading the players I named would clear some salary and net a few prospects the new GM could use in the offseason, and I think that's the most we can reasonably expect.

Z may be a jackass alot of the time, but I have no doubt that he cares about winning. I can't say that for most of the other guys on this team. If we had more guys getting p!ssed off because the team has been sucking, maybe we would have played our way out of this mess already. Most of them look like they are just walking around collecting a paycheck.

Zambrano's antics were cute at first. It's 2010 now. The guy still hasn't grown up and he's regressed considerably.

Jackass might be too kind to describe him right now.

You guys have this situation all wrong.

In 2007, we started out 9 games under .500, a position player and Z had a tiff in the dugout, and Lou came out and threw a temper tantrum. 4 months later we're celebrating a division title.

history is repeating itself!

My guess is Zambrano will be shipped out with us eating 50% or more of the contract and getting very little back in the terms of players.

At this point I really don't care what the Cubs get for Z. I am waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay beyond tired of his act.

Disagree - Z cares about himself. If he really cared so much about winning he would pull his head out of his rectum and use his immense talent in positve ways...............

Yes because Lou's dumb idea of moving him to the bullpen earlier in the season agrees with your assessment.

I'm not condoning Z's actions, but I would condone it from somebody with a little more credibility. Nothing would make me happier than to see Lee, Byrd, Dempster or Lilly go nuts on the team in the dugout after another 0-10 with runner's in scoring position performance. Of course, coming from Lee it would seem pretty hollow, considering the fact that he's a major contributor to the team's woes.

He cares about winning, but just lacks the mental capacity and focus to apply himself in ways that actually help this team. From the dugout flip-outs, poor performances, over swinging during bp/games w/ a bad back etc he just never turned out into who we all thought/hoped he would be.

At the core of it all, Chicago still has two very mediocre baseball teams, the difference...........one team cares.

Well, probably not the case at all, but ok.

Z has done very little to contribute to the success of the team this year. Blame and general in-fighting does nothing to help winning nor is it a sign that he wants to win.

It would sure seem that way, no?

In what way do the White Sox have a better lineup or rotation than us on paper?

Right now, the Cubs just dont deserve to share a city with the White Sox.

They have a better rotation on paper.

According to Bruce Levine on ESPN 1000, there are two theories on the Z explosion...

1) Z was upset with Lee's effort on the ground ball down the first base line.

2) Z was upset because he thought the ground ball down the line was foul and nobody else would back him up.

Jurko and Harry are backing Z up, questioning Lee's effort, with Jurko saying that Z is just an "emotional player on an emotionless team" and should have gone back out for the 2nd inning. That just reinforces why I have never liked Jurko.

You're right - thankfully Lou realized the error of his ways and moved him back to the starting rotation. That way when he gives up 4 runs in an inning we still have 8 inningss to overcome it instead of one or none.

They dont on paper, but if the Sox top 2 hitters over the past 5 years decided to compltely shut down for almost the first half of the season, they probably wouldnt be on a 9, about to be 10 game win streak.
