Were rumors swirling right before the draft last year about Simpson?

No.

Everyone was shocked.

The MLB network crew didn't even know who he was..

The thread from last year is around -- I think still on the first page.. Look at it for a few laughs.

Many thought Simpson was left handed, LOL. And were pissed when they found out he was right handed.

I remember imagining him on his couch eating a sandwich and looking up at the TV with a perplexed look on his face when they announed the pick.

"Hey dad, there's another guy named Hayden Simpson in this draft. I SAID THERE'S ANOTHER HAYDEN SIMPSON IN THE DRAFT. WEIRD HUH???"

The best part was MLB network put up the graphic on him (after a serious delay..) and said he was left handed.

Many here posted his stats and were like, "Hey, those numbers are pretty good for a LHP"

And then some jack ass came and let everyone know he was right handed by googling a picture.

Pretty hysterical.

If we go with a Colvin/Simpson pick, I am going to be pretty sick. I don't know anything about Baez, but he has upside. I don't want a 23 year old Cuban. Please. This has to be a huge bluff by Wilken.

I feel nauseous. This team is from top to bottom in need of some serious overhaul. However, it never appears likely to happen. It is quite maddening.

Mto be fair to Wilken, he's doing his part to drum up hits and visitors on NSBB.

hey, if we want controversy, I could just let Meph back on for a week. This is the one time of year he really contributed well.

If I said anything bad about Mahtook, Baez, Springer or anyone else, I take it back. Please, for the love of God, don't draft some freaking guy NO ONE has even heard at 9. :banghead:

I refuse to freak out until after the pick.

At that point, given my day, I wouldn't recommend being near me if Wilken "shocks the world".

With the 9th pick in the 2011 MLB amateur draft, the Chicago Cubs select...Russ, this guy Tim Wilken met in line at Starbucks.

What is known about Russ?

Well, hes 43 years old, works as a [expletive] supervisor at Menards, and is fighting his soon to be ex for custody of their Golden Doodle fifi.

Do we know anything else about him?

No, not really.

Was it Wilken or someone else who said that Wilken plans to shock the world? I guess the glimmer of hope is that when somebody announces their intent to shock the world, its usually not in a gut wrenching fashion.

This could finally be the move that makes everyone fully understand that this is the worst organization in professional sports.

Tom Rickets (Bankruptcy Court): Why doesn't Tom Wilken "shock the world" in the second or third round instead of the first round in one of the better drafts?

Kevin Goldstein: Because he doesn't care what the industry thinks, he cares what he thinks, and you have to respect that. The Cuban thing is just a rumor, not an absolute, but it's fun!

I tell you what... if the Cubs draft the Cuban, I'll encourage you to post your thoughts on Hendry in every thread for 24 hours.

Let's hold off until then, though, ok?

If we go out of left field with this pick, I wish Ricketts would literally fire Wilken and Hendry on the spot and I'd be OK with about 10 guys here at NSBB to make the rest of the picks.
