The Cubs placed third baseman Aramis Ramirez, suffering from a left-thumb contusion, on the disabled list on Wednesday.

To take Ramirez's spot on the roster, the Cubs recalled infielder Chad Tracy from Triple-A Iowa. Tracy, 30, had been scorching for Iowa, hitting .396 with five homers and 18 RBIs in 26 games. Tracy had been especially hot of late, with seven hits in his last 13 at-bats, including a 4-for-4 night last night.

Ramirez did not start on Tuesday for the second straight game, making a trip to the disabled list seem like a strong possibility. The thumb has been bothering Ramirez for some time and its showed in his average, as he's hitting .168 overall.

Tracy did play 19 games with the Major League Cubs earlier this year before being optioned to Triple-A. The left-handed hitter batted .273 during his earlier stint in the big leagues.

The seven-year veteran has played parts of seven seasons in the Majors with the D-backs and Cubs, batting .280 for his career, with 78 homers to his name.

I know we spent the majority of 2009 saying this, but if we can hang around the division until Aramis comes back, and hes back to form, we could be right back in this.

IT'S A TRAP!

I've already fall for the schtick once before (2009), I won't get burned again.

Too little, too late, even on the outside chance it actually would happen. This team is terrible and everytime I think I've seen the worst game of the year, they go and top it. Exampe, today (Saturday 6-19 vs. Angels).

Aramis went 0 for 3 with a strikeout and intentional walk in his first rehab game with Peoria.

Aramis DHed today and went 1/3, with a run, RBI, walk and a strikeout. He's 1/6 with 2 BB and 2 strikeouts with Peoria.

Man the strikeouts are really worrisome. I understand his timing is probably off, but the rate at which he was k'ing this year, Im not sure if you can totally ignore it at Peoria.

He was 0-3 the first game, right? That would make him 1-6 through 2 games.

My bad. I edited the initial post.

Very excited for Wednesday. I see this as a new start to the season for Aramis. His numbers in Peoria weren't great, but I'm holding out hope that being healthy and rested will help him regain form.

I wouldnt hold your breath. Hell I haven't even seen anything saying ARam is completely healthy yet.

My thoughts, too. I'm kind of thinking he needed an attitude adjustment as well, not sure he got that.

Yeah those 6 years of all star performance made him think he didn't suck. The prick.

Haha, just saw this one too. Don't you you all agree how much it sucked to have Aramis go 0-3 with a strikeout in every game over the past 6 years. Seriously, [expletive] that guy, he didn't run out a pop up one time, I ripped my child straight from his seat that day and told him we'd never set foot in the park again until we got rid of this hack.

Ramirez isn't coming back until the weekend according to Gordon Wittenmyer from Sun-Times.

Len and Bob said in tonight's game that A-Ram will be back Friday. He will be working with Rudy Jaramillo in the meantime.

WHAT! Noway! Everybody has told me that ARam is above working with Jaramillo, so that can't be true.
