White Sox possibly on verge of fire sale

From MLBTR:

The White Sox are open for business, ESPN's Buster Olney heard from multiple executives. Olney specifically names Paul Konerko as someone who is available right now. Check out Olney's info in these three tweets.

Back in April, I ran through players who could be available if the Sox became sellers. Konerko can veto any trade, a right that will be granted to A.J. Pierzynski and Mark Buehrle on June 14th and July 6th, respectively. As sellers the White Sox could offer up one of trade season's hottest commodities: relief pitching. Bobby Jenks and J.J. Putz would be prime trade candidates. I'm guessing Scott Linebrink and Tony Pena would not be difficult to pry loose, though Matt Thornton would. The Sox also have plenty of veterans on one-year deals, such as Andruw Jones, Freddy Garcia, Mark Kotsay, Omar Vizquel, and Ramon Castro.

Good idea, they aren't going to win anything anytime soon and they could use a jolt to their farm system after trading away guys like Chris Young and Chris Carter and the like over the past few years.

Maybe I'm opening up a whole new can of annoying ass worms, but...

Buy low on Jake Peavy?

It's hard to imagine Kenny Williams actually selling. I see him trying to pry Roberto Alomar out of retirement or something, but if true, thats a brilliant idea. They have the perfect setup for a team thats selling, veterans on one year deals and hoards of relief pitching. Combine that with a pathetic minor league system and a decent chunk of their core being aging its a no brainer.

Dear God, no.

I remember in the offseason some writers suggested the Cubs and Sox swap Z and Peavy straight up. I'd do it. Z gets to plan for his buddy Ozzie and Peavy gets to come back to the NL and sing Go Cubs Go at sports bars.

Is that a "Dear God, no not this crap again!" or a "Dear God, no he's not as good as advertised and I want no part of him"?

Or both?

If there's one thing the Cubs are short on, it's starting pitchers and huge long term contracts to players who won't live up to them.

The latter. Speculation really doesn't impact me at all, so whatever.

While I'm sure Kenny would love to unload half the team to replenish the farm, the only person worthy of anything above a B prospect is Konerko. And even then, he's a free agent at the end of the season.

That White Sox team is absolutely awful.

I went to the game on Friday night (free company tickets) and not only was the park empty, those who were there were watching the Hawks game on the concourses.

That and the team played with absolutely no sense of urgency. They made the Cubs look like the Yankees.

I do wonder what all of the "experts" saw in the WS before the season that made them think this was a contending team. I will agree that their rotation looked good on paper, but the lineup was really ugly all season.

I wonder if someone would bite on Rios. He's been arguably the best overall outfielder in the majors this year.

He's had hot stretches before. Until he puts it together for an entire season, I think his contract will prevent the Sox from getting as much value as he provides to them.

I would think that Rios is one of the guys Williams wants to keep. Of course, if some team offered some really good prospects and took his whole contract then KW would trade him in a second.
