Lee scratched. Nady at 1st, Baker in right.

I wonder why.

Can't wait for Lou to just throw Baker in the 3 hole to take Lee's spot. God forbid he'd have to write up a whole new lineup card or anything....

Close, he put Baker in the 2 spot and moved Byrd to the 3 spot

Dusty was a master at that.

I remember seeing a game in Milwaukee in which Sammy had the night off, so Troy O'Leary was in RF and batting 3rd. Everyone else was in their normal lineup position.

have they announced a tentative first pitch time?

Pirates' announcers say it is raining very hard there right now, and will quite some time before they're able to start. Perfect opportunity for me to go inside and get some dinner, eh?

OK..... THIS lineup is totally unique. Number 42 in 54 games.

Lou does realize that the position on the field doesn't have to dictate where the player hits in the lineup, right? I guess he didn't want to erase very much after scratching Lee. That would be too hard. Just swap some people around in the middle of the order because he at least recognized Baker isn't a #3 hitter (or maybe Trammell told him).

I am so sick of seeing bench players hitting in the middle of the order because they are starting for one of the perennial #3 or #4 hitters. It is especially aggravating when good players are hitting 6,7,8.

looks like about a three hour window. 1/2 hr to clean up the field, 2 1/2 to get in at least the minimum 5..

I'm no hockey expert, but don't you need more goals than the other team to be winning?

I can only assume that the tarp failed, or a drain is stopped up.

The tarp has been taken off the field and the Pirates expected to start the game at around 9:35 p.m., or 8:35 p.m. Chicago-time.

But that target time has expired, and now crew chief Tim McClelland is walking around the field with managers John Russell and Lou Piniella, checking to see if it's in playable condition.

That sucks. I was hoping for west coast baseball tonight.

It's really rare to hear of an unplayable field. All MLB parks now boast the kind of drainage that makes (made?) such problems a thing of the past.

If Kenney hadn't given away the blowtorch for the night, one might be able to glean more information.
