What options do we have with this guy? To have a WHIP well over 2 going into June is ridiculous. He has allowed 1 run or more in 6 straight outings, which is beyond a slump for a reliever. There comes a point where you have to make a change regardless of contract, which is why the Cubs need to release this guy and eat the money. It should be the corresponding move for Cashner, but we all know it won't be. With Marshall and Russell performing well though you have to wonder how much time Grabow has left to right the ship.

He needs to be sat at the end of the bullpen and never used David Patton style, but we can't afford to do that, so instead we need to just get rid of him. It was a bad contract when it was signed, and that's when we thought he was at least an average lefty reliever.

Seeing as he has joined Neifi Perez, Aaron Miles, and others as a winner of the JIm Hendry lottery, he probably has another 5 mil or so coming to him. Teams have gutted more than that on less bad players and let them walk away. If we can find I taker, and I dont see how we could that might be the best option.

However, a long shot would be trading for another reliever with a bad contract. I beleive Cleveland has a righty that might be right up our alley. I think the guys name is Wood. Kerry Wood. Cleveland isnt going anywhere anytime soon, so this move doesnt benefit them as a 1 for 1 swap, however, if we could to some kind of tradeoff with contracts, it could happen. Also, he claims to love the Cubs organization so much, maybe hed be willing to either waive or restructure his very ill advised 2011 $11 million option. Boy, was that a bad contract.

ESPN is reporting that Grabow was put on the 15 day DL, as the corresponding move. Apparently he is still having knee troubles.

Grabow's contract is backloaded. He makes 2.7 mill this and 4.8 mill next year. There's zero chance we DFA him this year, if you ask me. Personally, I'm targeting mid-June of NEXT year as to when he's DFA'd. And then he'll catch on with someone else for the minimum and pitch fairly decently for the rest of the year, in all likelihood.

Ive said this a million times, but Im still baffled. Until this year, Grabow has been a solid but not spectacular middle reliever, but on what planet are run of the mill middle relievers worth 7.5 mil? Thats even a lot for a good set up man, and while he started out as a set up man, he wasnt even intended to be used that way, unless they had a pretty good idea that Guz would miss the season all along.

Looks like he just lost it over the off-season. He's always been a major league pitcher. Sure hasn't resembled one this year, however.

Scot Shields was awarded a 3-year contract that averaged out to $4.8M each year at a time when he was widely considered to be the greatest setup man of the decade.

So if the greatest setup man of the decade is worth $4.8M per year... and John Grabow is getting $4.8M next year, then theoretically speaking John Grabow is a douche bag.

Seriously, his knee is hurt. You know what they do to high priced race horses when their legs get hurt? They kill them. I'm just throwin' it out there
