You can't really argue with him pitching to Rollins right there. He has pretty good numbers against Rollins and Rollins has been out for a month or so. He's not too familiar with Ibanez (3 AB's), and that usually bodes well for the hitter.

I do have a problem with him throwing it in his wheelhouse though.

Dempster is such an idiot. I was thinking in my head as he had that 3-0 count, "You can't possibly grove one to him can you, you have to walk him and take your chances with the .242 hitting Ibanez. "

Yep. It was just dumb baseball. I was thinking that Utley did the Cubs a favor by tagging on the fly to Howard. Then Dempster does that garbage.

once it's 3-0 just walk him; don't try to come back on a good hitter with two runners in scoring position. i guess if you still want to try to get him out, throw curveballs or changes and try to hit the corners or get him to chase.

I disagree with several points here. Since when does a hitter not being familiar with a pitcher bode well for the hitter?

Actually, you can really easily. It wasn't smart.

Soooo....you walk a guy who has been out for a full month and has a .689 OPS against you, so you can face a guy that you've only pitched to 3 times?

No. You make a better pitch.

Most hitters will take the 3-0 pitch, so I don't see what the big deal is. Rollins got the green light and destroyed the ball. It happens.

The big deal is even if he takes it, you have to throw the same pitch 3-1 and probably 3-2 so you don't walk him. He didn't hit it 3-0, he would have hit it 3-1. Play to the open base and pitch to Ibanez with a fresh count.
