Did Reinsdorf ever pay the luxury tax during the Jordan years? LeBron might be wondering how he will pay for Rose if he gets two max guys this year.

Is Boozer going to be a max guy? Since there are so many teams and so few players, he could become one even though his talent shouldn't place him there. I would just rather have LeBron, Boozer, and Ray Allen if the Bulls could financially swing that. I want a shooting guard who can shoot.

I recall reading something a while ago where Reinsdorf said he would have no problem paying the luxury tax if the Bulls were championship contenders.

Yeah but saying that and doing that are different things. I'm just playing devil's advocate though. I believe that he will no problem, especially when a global superstar is on the team.

I'm trying to think of opportunities to go over the luxury tax in the past where the Bulls let someone go or refused to play someone to avoid it.

The only scenarios I can think of off the top of my head are not resigning Gordon which would have put them over the tax. But in that case you can argue that the Bulls were doomed to mediocrity if they had resigned Gordon, and it's the biggest reason we are in a position to get LBJ and Bosh. The other time is all of last year the Bulls straddled the lux tax line and JR wouldn't make any small moves to get over the tax. There were a few times where they could of and needed to due to injuries and whatnot and didnt.

But I understand that and respect it. Why pay tons of extra money for a team that's not contending and is playing for next year.

I just keep on thinking about how important it was to get that number one pick two years ago in the lottery. Not only did the Bulls get Rose at a nearly impossible percentage, but they just might land LeBron and Bosh because of it. Makes one wonder if Stern arranged the balls so the Bulls would win. The NBA needed a strong Chicago team.

What we need is Jo and Derrick giving FAs the full court press. Noah can be the hype man and Rose can mumble a thing or two about how great it would be.

Does Reinsdorf go to Akron with GarPax, Rose, Noah, and Thibodeau?

that article says they're trying to get pippen to go with them, which would be pretty huge imo, especially after the wade comments.

it also says the hawks might offer joe johnson the 6/126 max, which would be absolutely hilarious.

The Hawks are more screwed without him. Not one free agent has said anything about them wanting to go there.

Pippen going to with would be sweet. I wish Jordan didn't own a team so he could go to (not that he would or anything but It would be cool to have MJ meet with LBJ).

If your JJ do you take that max deal with no hope of winning a championship or do you take a smaller deal and go to someone like the Bulls (assuming the Bulls can become a contender when all of this is over.)

No. The team has a hard enough time drawing with him. Without him they don't make the playoffs and lose even more money. Keeping Johnson gives Atlanta a faint hope that they could win something. Either way they aren't getting past the second round. Might as well keep the fans coming.

oh my god. i saw this on realgm. if this is the knicks pitch to lebron, i have no words:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/ian_thomsen/06/29/knicks.pitch.lebron/#ixzz0sInvKgUe

"In addition, the Knicks can warn James that if he doesn't want to join them, then he should consider how he'll feel competing against Johnson, Bosh or Stoudemire and one or two more stars by 2011-12. As they'll tell James Thursday, they have no choice but to build a championship team -- with or without him. They will encourage him to decide quickly, in order to help them recruit a big winner. "

FWIW here are Chad Ford's predictions as of now: Bron & Johnson in Chi; Wade & Bosh in Mia; Amare & Gay in NJ; Dirk in Dallas; Boozer in NY; Lee in Utah

And his odds on landing LeBron: Bulls 40%, Cavs 25%, Heat 20%, Nets 10%, Knicks 4%, Clippers 1%

Knicks are definately out there.

To basically warned him that should he not join them he should be shaking in his boots against JJ, Bosh or Amar'e is flat out juvenile. If it stays in Cleveland then yeah he might have concern, but if it Chicago...........uh no. Of course all of this is based on NY getting JJ, Bosh or Amar'e. If the reports are true that ATL is offering $126 mill for JJ, no way JJ takes off for NY. Bosh basically won't go anywhere without Lebron, and Amar'e is looking for reasons to stay in PHX. In a matter of two years NY could be going from being a frontrunner in the 2010 FA Class to striking out. In other words, the have no room to be this bold in there comments towards James. And it doesn't surprise me that Maverick Carter and LBJ have essentially lukeworm interests in the Knicks, at best.

This reeks of desparation by the Knicks.

If we get Lebron I really dont care who we get with him, but why has there been so little talk about Dirk?

i don't think people really thought he would opt out

Thats what I was wondering, because his name has been so quiet in this. I know Dirk has commented about loving Chicago, and personally I think him, Rose, and Lebron would work great together.

Late in the season it was expected that he would opt out for the payday. No one seems to think there's much chance of him Dallas. He likes it there, he's the man there and Cuban treats him (and the rest of the team well) and has been loyal to him. People don't think he's all that interested in starting over somewhere as the #2, even if that gets him closer to a title.

He would be ideal alongside Wade or James though.

Paul Pierce opting out of his contract also. What a ridiculous free agent class.

I don't think anything like this has ever happened in sports.

You never know though. Dirk's best chance at a title is probably going to be somewhere else, he might realize that this will be his best chance to move and do it.

Early reports say Pierce wants to play for the Italian national soccer team.

Glad Im not alone in thinking this. Him, Lebron, Rose, and Noah would be absolutely sick.
