Best and Worst Announcers in Baseball

Don't know if this is already being discussed, I'm new to the site. If it is feel free to move it.

I have recently subscribed to the MLB extra innings, and I get to see some of the other announcers for the first time. After watching some of the other teams I have come to the conclusion that the Cubs announcers are not that bad.

That being said, I dont mind when an announcer on his home station cheers for his own team. I Just dont like it when they announce on a neutral station and do the same thing (Tim McCarver and Joe Buck). One of my biggest pet peaves is when they refuse to acknowledge other teams talent or success, which is one of the qualities of Bob Brenley (Sp.) and Len Kasper, or when they refuse to admit that a close call was actually correct when it goes against there team.

A few I like:

Reds (Except for when Jeff Brantley is on there)

Astros

Rays

Orioles

Cubs (May be a little biased)

Cubs radio (May be very biased)

Royals

A few I hate

Cardinals (Not being biased they just really suck)

Red Sox

White Sox

Mets

of course Joe Morgan

FOX announcers (other than Family Guy I just hate FOX)

Just wanted to hear some other opinions and to get an idea of some other teams to watch when the Cubs aren't on.

I have to disagree on the Reds, and maybe its because they haven't been real competitive recently. From what I've watched they seem to keep their cool when calls dont go their way, except for when Jeff Brantley is on, he is just terrible and seems cocky.

The Mets guys may not be that bad but the other day they kept going on about how you need to pitch Soriano inside because he crowds the plate. If they have ever watched him play they would have know to throw him a slider low and out of the zone. I guess that just left a bad impression on me.

And yes OleMissCubs, the Mariners announcers are horrible but I do like watching them play for some reason.

Here is a reason to say they are horrible

Thom Brenneman is worse than Joe Buck IMO

Yep. Joe Buck is so self-absorbed he gives his opinion the whole time. Brenneman is so angry and bitter he gives his opinion all the time and it's even worse.

It doesn't get any worse than John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman. It boggles the mind that these two can hold down jobs in the #1 market.

making fun of her HORRIBLE "goodness gracious!!" moment when Clemens came back to the Yankees.

The Pirates guys are just awful. They really are. Admittedly they have a pretty difficult job making Pirates baseball seem interesting, and they have a LOT of garbage time to fill, but still, they sound horrible.

I have never seen that before. I think it was Jeff Brantley's bad influence that incouraged him to say those things. Now I think the Reds announcers suck.

OK, seriously are you a troll? Just seems a bit odd for someone to come in and say stuff about how good the Reds announcers are as their first order of business on the site. I'm not saying you are a troll but your posts just seem odd.

New to this so I don't know what a troll is, and for the record I am not offended by being questioned about it, just calling it like I saw it on a small sample size of watching other teams broadcasters and I am interested in seeing other peoples opinions on the topic. I hope we didn't get off on the wrong foot.

I think Milwaukee's announcers are pretty solid, or at least Anderson is. Colorado's are ok too. But it has been a while since I watched another team's announcers since I didn't get MLBTV this year. No point since I can't get Cubs games.

Fair enough. It's just hatred for the Reds announcers and the whole Brenneman family is pretty wide spread amongst Cubs fans. That whole family has an irrational hated for the Cubs and constantly airs that hatred on the air through insults and the such. With your low post count I wasn't sure if you were a Reds fan posting this to try and incite a reaction which is what a troll is on a message board.

Wasn't really calling you a troll, as I didn't know your intentions, but was curious.

I found Vin Scully to be irritating when I listened to him. He may have simultaneously been doing TV and radio, but he never stopped talking even when he had nothing to say. I think he mentioned a player's wife was a CSI.
