Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be suspended for four to six games on Wednesday for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, according to multiple sources.

When the suspension is announced, it will contain conditions that will allow it to be reduced based on Roethlisberger's behavior and compliance with clinical evaluators.

Commissioner Roger Goodell's verdict will reinforce a message that NFL employees will be held to a higher standard than the law.

Steelers employees were bracing Tuesday night for what they suspected would be an eight-game suspension, but two sources said it would not be eight games.

Seems excessive to me.

Seems like he got off easy to me.

Legally speaking, yep. NFL-wise, quite possibly as well. If they went through with charges on this, he could have seen a season or more taken away.

I've heard a lot of pittsburgh fans calling for a substantial suspension.

this post should have included a joke about big ben getting off.

Conditions that will allow the suspension to be reduced tells me he got off real easy. How hard is it to stay out of trouble when you know that staying out of trouble benefits you somehow?

ESPN's Adam Schefter reporting that the Steelers are shopping Big Ben for a top 10 pick in tomorrow's draft. Supposedly at least one team is considering it.

I could see Oakland being interested.

That brings some interesting questions. One of course is which team is supposedly considering, the second is which QB, if any, are the Steelers hoping to nab. I am assuming they aren't considering Leftwich for their long term answer and are interesting in a QB out there.

Wow. I guess if said team didn't want to pay first-round money and needs a QB. But I don't see him being worth that.

No doubt. McShay also mentioned Buffalo. So, it wouldn't surprise me if Ben is traded before the draft is over.

I would assume Jimmy Clausen, if they plan on using that first round pick on a QB.

Well, say you were picking in the top 10 and were going to take Clausen anyway. Would you trade Clausen straight up for Roethlisberger? I think a few teams would.

Funny how the Steelers don't play a nationally televised game in the first 6 weeks. Think the schedulers knew something?

The Steelers could just as easily use the top 10 pick on something other than QB and then take Tebow or McCoy (or Clausen if he falls) with their second 1st rd pick.

As for the suspension I would say without proof a 6-8 game suspension is just about right. 4-6 is OK but if it gets reduced to 2 games then it is a joke.

Does anyone know exactly what happened?

According to the police report, he cherry-plucked a drunk girl from a bar and then set up his body guards to protect the room, not allowing her friends entrance when they realized what was going on and wanted to check if she was OK.

The prosecutors declined to file criminal charges. But Goodell is well within a decent range with this suspension. I'd have given him half a season.

Yeah, she was probably asking for it.

Weren't the results of the rape kit from the hospital inconclusive? Maybe she had sex willingly and then decided later that it was a mistake and claimed rape. The DA said there wasn't enough evidence to charge him with a crime, right? Roethlisberger seems like a grade A scumbag, but if that's enough to warrant a 6 games suspension then the NFL might have to look into replacement players in order to prevent cancellation of games.
