Once again, 0 penalties on Philly tonight. Second straight first game of a series where the opponent didn't have a penalty called on them, and we won both games by a goal.

those non-calls on the interference on hossa and the high stick on seabrook were just atrocious. they weren't even out of position. they were right on the plays and somehow missed them

The high stick on Seabrook was a good non-call. They showed a great replay of it on CBC. Seabrook shot the puck in deep, and the follow-through from his shot pulled a Flyers' player's stick into his own face.

we may have just taken philly's best shot and survived

lopecky has been pretty good when he's played this postseason. i said that when he was dropped earlier too. i think he's definitely outplayed guys like burish and eager

and bolland will be a legend if we win the cup.

Yes but as someone said on the Second City roundtable, the Flyers aren't going to roll over at any point in the series. They're mentally (and physically I guess) tougher than any of the previous opponents. They'll keep coming.

well i didn't really mean it that way. philly definitely will keep ocming. i'm just saying that we played about as bad as we could have, but still won.

You're right. I guess I was just thinking that allthough the Hawks had a ton of breakdowns the Flyers had the skill to take advantage. Briere missed the tying goal by about 4 inches with 7 minutes left.

Your point remains though. Even out the penalties, have the D's play the way they did last series along with the 1st line showing up and it's not a one goal game.

Haha wow....a reported asked Kopetzky if he was injured the last few games (why he wasn't playing), and Kop responded with a really blunt "no comment" and then moved along to the next question. And seconds later he was smiling and laughing.

really stupid question from that reporter. obviously he hasn't been paying attention to the hawks this postseason.

btw, it's kopecky. no big deal, just a pet peeve

I say we need to unilaterally fix Eastern European name spellings. Sheshefskee can go to hell.

Leighton gave a remarkably calm and balanced interview, answering the tougher questions he received. I'm somewhat impressed

He seems like a really cool guy. Best line I've seen on a message board tonight, though:

"This game was over when Michael Leighton looked at his driver's license and remembered that he is Michael Leighton."

If you look closely at the top frame of NHL.com, where the teams are listed, the only two that still have color in their logos when the mouse isn't on them are the Hawks and Flyers. Subtle, but neat.

i would have never ever noticed that. pretty cool

my three stars for the game would have to be hossa, kopecky, and versteeg. steeger's blind pass to kopecky on the game winner was pretty nasty, and hossa/kopecky were just all over the ice all night.

when/if ladd comes back, i think you've gotta stick with kopecky if he keeps playing this way. he's beasting right now.

Based on how little PT Eager got after his penalty early on, you'd have to think he'd be the odd man out, even in a series that's supposed to be as physical as this.

Was the referrring as bad as what several Hawks site are suggesting? Cause I've seen the name McCreary mentioned in tonight's game, and I remember he is by far one of the worst refs, I've ever seen and I have always wonder what does McCreary have to do to get fired from the NHL? I mean I wouldn't trust McCreary to ref a little league hockey game, much less a Stanley Cup game.

can someone give me a scouting report on jack skille. if steeger isn't going to be a blackhawk next year, sounds like he'll get a chance to play with the big club, but i know next to nothing about him.

would have been nice to have kopitar, but would the balance be there if we had taken him?

We looked much better on both ends of the ice (especially in our zone) in the third period. That gives me a lot of optimism going forward in this series.

The real question after this game is who's going to be the goaltender for Philadelphia on Monday? They have a very bad situation on their hands because of how poorly Leighton played tonight. Thanks for the real Michael Leighton showing up tonight.

it doesn't matter who their goalie is, throw any of them out there, they aren't stealing any games.

Well yeah, but it can only lead to worse things if there's goalie confusion for them.

Tough for me to leave Bolland off. 1 goal, 1 assist, +3, 4 shots, played over 20 minutes and was better (though still 50%) with faceoffs.

Incredible that in a game with 11 goals scored, the top line for each team was held without a point and were a combined -16!

So here's what I took out of the game last night.

1) Niemi wasn't as bad as he looked out there. There were some bad bounces, and bad D in front of him. He's gonna get beat high if they're able to go there....that's definitely a weakness for him. I think you just have to accept that though.

2) The bounces went Philly's way tonight.

3) Turnovers...ugh...that really hurt us tonight.

4) I don't see the Hawks playing worse than this in the series.

5) The Toews line was useless tonight. I'm sure that says a lot about the line playing against them, but nonetheless...that can't continue.

Is it weird to say that I'm more confident after this game? The Hawks got better as they went, and if they just play like they did in the 3rd period the rest of the series, we're gonna win this thing.
