ROFL...ok...I'm apparently bad at more than New England...considering I thought it included more states than it apparently does.

I think those are generally referred to as the mid-atlantic states, also Delaware valley area.

lol...the Sharks blog, FearTheFin, did a Finals analysis...this was the final couple of paragraphs...made me laugh...

I'll be backing Philadelphia for a couple of reasons, but as we've seen all year, Chicago is probably the best team in the NHL. They're just way too deep to falter after coming this far, even when one takes into consideration Pronger's mystical qualities. As if sports writers needed another opportunity to reference "a will to win."

Hawks in six, The Cursed Slovak gets his Cup, and Byfuglien gets crosschecked in the head by Pronger about seventeen times.

Go Flyers.

lol @ the bit about Buff.

Posted

there's really no reason to hate the hawks, other than the fact that buff will piss in your cherios and score with your girlfriend on your dad's pool table while you stand there and watch, helpless and in disbelief.

the canuck fans were pinning their hopes on blake and thornton, now, it's pronger as a last hope for shark fans.

we hate pronger but we hate buff worse! pronger will get him!

i certainly hope pronger focuses his attention on buff while the real players are skating all over the zone.

Pronger is way better than Blake.

Philadelphia's forwards are way more defensively sound than San Jose's were. No wingers skating right to the front of the net unmarked this series.

Fortunately, they aren't as threatening offensively as Vancouver or San Jose were. They don't get a ton offensively from their defensemen, and they have three solid lines of good but not great offensive forwards. If Niemi doesn't poop the bed, the Blackhawks' team defense should be able to keep the scoring way, way, way down.

Blah blah blah short series anything can happen my teams are cursed philly will sweep

Odds to win the 2010 Conn Smyth Trophy:

Antti Niemi (CHI)

5/1

Chris Pronger (PHI)

25/1

Danny Briere (PHI)

18/1

Dustin Byfuglien (CHI)

25/1

Jonathan Toews (CHI)

4/9

Marian Hossa (CHI)

35/1

Michael Leighton (PHI)

8/1

Mike Richards (PHI)

7/1

Patrick Kane (CHI)

19/2

Patrick Sharp (CHI)

30/1

Simon Gagne (PHI)

25/1

Field (Any Other Player)

Hossa at 35/1 has to be good value right?

Short of someone going off for like 2 goals per game in the final, or Niemi with four shutouts, nobody but Toews will win the Conn Smythe if the Blackhawks win the Cup. The rest are sucker bets.

Yeah, Niemi would be the only threat for Toews I think.

At 35/1 I'm almost willing to just assume the risk that Toews will be hurt/ineffective and Hossa will be the best player on the team.

NOT THAT I'M HOPING FOR THAT

Yeah but again the Conn Smythe is MVP of the playoffs as a whole. If Toews was injured or ineffective, I think Niemi, Kane, Byfuglien, and Keith would be ahead of Hossa starting this series, with Sharp and Versteeg probably being in the same realm. I'm sure performance in the SCF is given higher regard than any of the other rounds, but not enough to suggest Hossa could jump over all those guys unless he had like 7 goals and 5 assists and pretty much willed the Hawks to victory in a couple of games. If Toews is injured to the point where he's no longer favorite, Niemi slumps, Buff diappears, I think it would be between Kane (who was quiet on the score sheet vs. SJ but solid in the first 2 rounds) and Kieth.

ESPN picks are up.

2 pick the Flyers. Nobody thinks it will be shorter than 6 games.

Buccigross picked the Flyers because his preseason Stanley Cup prediction was Flyers over Blackhawks and he wants to be right.

He made that guess before the playoffs started? Heckuva guess just to get the teams right.

I'm confused though. He picked Boston over Philly in round 2.

No he made that pick back in September, before the season started. Which is actually less amazing just because the Flyers were supposed to be pretty good coming into the season.

Not a Bulls fan, Super Bowl XX was on my fourth birthday, Hull's title was before I was born, and WTH is Tampa Bay doing in there?

Pierre LeBrun on the SCF (from a chat):

Adam (Philly)

Pierre: Anyone who follows the Flyers know that the way the team is playing now is what people thought they were capable of when the season began, plus they're uncharacteristically healthy. They are deep down the middle and have four solid defensemen (two of whom are top-tier). How does their depth match up with the Hawks, and will Leighton need to steal games for you to reverse your prediction of Hawks in 6?

Pierre LeBrun (2:13 PM)

I picked the Flyers in September to win the East so you don't have to convince me about their depth. But I've spent a month and half with the Blackhawks and I just don't think any team in the NHl could beat them right now. The Flyers will give them a good test, but I don't see them with the upset. I also think Montreal had nothing left for Philly after the back-to-back David vs. Goliath jobs on Wash and Pitt and didn't really test Leighton. We'll see how Leighton fares when Big Poppa, Captain Serious and the Doctor get going.

I thought your post theme was "this is how things end for Chicago teams", so my response was "it doesn't always end that way". The Rays I put in there as a joke...it's them celebrating their ALDS victory over the White Sox.
