Thank you schedule makers!!!! The Blackhawks will raise their championship banner in their home opener next year against......................................THE DETROIT RED WINGS on October 9th.

Saturday in October? Boo

Tailgating in the morning, watch your Hawkeyes at 11, then drink your way til 7PM, Hawks raise the banner!

I just hope it doesn't conflict with a Cubs playoff game. ha ha ha HA.

Actually that's the Hawkeyes bye weekend so no problem there. A week prior and it would have been at the same time as Iowa/Penn State.

I just can't commit to watching hockey on the weekend until February really though this game will be an exception. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday are ideal until football season is over.

I wonder if they expect Chris Pronger to attend.

But in all seriousness, that's awesome. That article also says the Cubs will have a float at the parade too.

(*note to mods: this is not me calling Chris Pronger gay, it is in reponse to this http://outsports.com/jocktalkblog/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/pronger_gay.jpg)

I try not to talk too much about sexuality here, though I think most people know by now I'm gay. This story is really one of the most significant Chicago sports stories, for me personally, that I can recall in a long time. I am so proud to be a fan of both the Cubs and the Blackhawks right now. I'm not going to pretend that there's a chance that every player on both teams is comfortable with homosexuality, but the fact that the organization wants to participate in this and that some players are willing if not excited to do so says a lot about the progress we've made.

That said, the pride parade isn't my cup of tea. I hope they have fun.

I agree this is a great thing for both teams to do. However as a Cubs fan in STL I can only imagine some of the "jokes" I'll hear about this.

Confirming the ignorance of STL fans. Not that we needed that confirmation.

This is a cool thing. I'm glad both teams are doing it. I can definitely see Kaner getting tanked and dancing half-naked to club music on one of the floats.

I could be wrong but I think I read that only Sopel and his family will represent the actual team in terms of players.

About 15 seconds passed before anyone in the room realized he came.

:rotfl:

I've always wondered who writes comments for Deadspin. They are almost always really funny and it's always the same people.

Can you guys believe this happened? About once a day I look over at my wife and say "Holy crap, the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup! They are Stanley Cup Champions!"

I actually just watched the TV game on my DVR a few days ago.

I was on a plane getting ready for takeoff overseas when I saw the update on my iPhone.

In a way, this just happened for me :)

I love this Hawks team. As long as we have our key pieces, which we do, I'm extremely excited for October!

Every time the "Congratulations Chicago fans, your Blackhawks are 2010 Stanley Cup Champions" commercial for the championship gear comes on to NHLN, it sinks in.

When the playoffs were happening, you just keep getting closer and closer that you forget how hard it is to do it and how long it takes. When it happened it felt more like we just beat the FLyers, when really we had just beaten the entire NHL.

I think I might go over the playoff highlights again tonight to distract me from the Bulls offseason fail.
