I think these estimates are always overdone. 2 million? It sounds good, and it's not like anyone can disprove it. I remember when it used to be said that there were 20,000 hockey fans in Chicago. How about 100 times that!

I don't get home until about 1:00am tonight, but I'll be staying up to re-watch Game 6 and all of the parade [expletive] I recorded on CSN today. At least I hope it recorded.

List of some entire metro areas (city+burbs) that are smaller than the supposed number of people who showed up today:

-Las Vegas

-Columbus

-Charlotte

-Indianapolis

-Austin

-Nashville

-Milwaukee

-Memphis

-Oklahoma City

-New Orleans

There were some boos for Huet and well, that's just not cool at all.

I didn't see it yet, but I'm fine with booing him. He's worthless and his contract (though admittedly not his fault) may hamstring the team for the next few years.

Meh, it's a day to celebrate, not boo. I am fine if people want to boo for performance during games and whatnot, but during a championship celebration just be happy and if you don't want to applaud him, just do nothing. I'm sure he feels shitty enough about his crappy year.

If two million showed up that's bigger than 15 states if the site that I found was accurate.

If the Cubs won the series I can't even imagine the celebration. Sure there are two teams in the city but people would show up from everywhere in the country you'd have to imagine.

I wonder if they're inflating the count by counting people that worked in the buildings adjacent to the parade route?

I'd come home from Texas.

c'mon. why boo him for accepting a contract? what was he supposed to do? turn it down because he didn't think he deserved it?

and either way, booing ANY player at a championship parade is just really really weak. "eff you huet, if you didn't suck so bad, maybe we finish with 117 points instead of 112! thanks a lot, you bum"

Seriously though, Quenneville is a terrible coach.

He only had to wait for all the good, dangerous teams to get eliminated by other teams and then face crappy teams the rest of the way.

you heard it. we lucked out by playing trash like vancouver and san jose

Seriously, stop. Who gives a [expletive]? We just won the Stanley Cup. Enjoy the moment and stop worrying about [expletive] Red Wing fans are thinking.

i'm not worrying about it, i'm enjoying it and pointing out the hilarity. what's wrong with enjoying your rival suffer through your team winning a championship?

i enjoy seeing detroit fans' responses, they're scared, real scared, and trying to act like they aren't by overcompensating and saying ridiculous things. it's amusing to me to see them thrash about and grasp desperately at whatever they can so that they can sleep at night.

Yeah....I enjoy seeing the Red Wings comments too. Part of the fun of being on top is seeing others aspire to overtake you, or attempt to diminish your accomplishments. For me anyway.

Just because its not your cup of tea doesn't mean you have to rain on our parade. This is something that we enjoy doing. You have other ways you enjoy success. I actually do this constantly all year round for all sports. I always want to know what the opponent's fans are thinking and saying. I've been given crap from Wings fans constantly over the last 10+ years...it's nice to be on top for once.

I'd argue that's a big part of what makes championships fun. Of course the winning of it is the biggest, but interactions with rivals are up there.

i saw a post on a wings boards regarding the additional 4m cap hit from the toews/kane bonuses. he said something like "and the hits keep on coming for the blackhawks". that specific line made me laugh pretty hard. we won a [expletive] stanley cup 2 days ago, but "the hits keep on coming".

yeah, blackhawk nation is in complete disarray right now. basically rock bottom

2 million ppl; how is that possible?

It's very strange to be here in Vienna watching the World Cup fervor stir to life while the Hawks are celebrating at home.

They put up video screens on the Danube last night and everyone gathered to watch....I half expected to see Hawks giving victory speeches instead of WC festivities :)

I definitely believe that there were 2 million people there today.

That was ridiculously fun and definitely something I'll never forget. The Versteeg thing was just strange. Trade him now.

good to see versteeg giving us one last versteeg moment as a blackhawk (there are many similar moments with him off the ice if you do some youtube searching).

i won't miss him as a player, but i'll miss him as verbeauty

2 million is more than the estimated crowd at Obama's inauguration. I just don't think it's a realistic number.

Just for another comparison. Obama's victory rally in Grant Park was 225,000.

Also the Bulls rallies were around 200,000-250,000 based on the numbers I can find.

I find it hilarious to read other teams' message boards in reaction to wins. I don't post, but I read.

Heck, I thought it was hilarious to read the Cardinals fans reacting to Cubs message boards posts during the 2007 sweep.

That was shot from on top of the Tribune Tower, across the river and almost 500 feet above the ground... holy crap that was awesome.
