Someone on the Flyers board said that Melrose said the Hawks are the worst team to ever be up 2-0 in the SCF....did he actually spew forth those words?

I think the Blackhawks were exhausted in that 3rd period. They were slow and couldn't keep up the Flyers pace at all. Niemi stole this game.

The only thing that would make sense is if he said "The Hawks played the worst out of any team to go up 2-0 in the SCF." The Hawks didn't play their best hockey in either game. If they don't tighten some things up, they will be tied 2-2 going back to Chicago.

That said, a win is a win, and a sweep is still in the picture. I won't truly complain about anything until the Hawks lose a game. If the Hawks lose a game.

The atmosphere was amazing tonight. I'm so fortunate to get to go to a Stanley Cup Final game, even if I had to pay out the ass to go.

was i the only one that was kind of disgusted by mcguire's talk about the flyers? after they scored their first goal (a lucky ass goal on a power play when the hawks were completely dominating them before the penalty) he was raving about how impressed he was that the flyers hadn't quit. yeah, they reminded me of the 1980 USA team with the way they got that power play goal. just amazing heart.

it was all night too. at first it was just him raving about leighton early (when leighton wasn't doing anything) and then it just kept escalating into a full blown love affair.

There are no moral victories now. This ends one of two ways: Cup or choke.

even though it probably wasn't true at the time, i've felt this way since we went up 2-0 on the sharks coming back home. it was at that point it actually hit me that "holy crap, this is really happening". that was when i was all in... meaning anything less than a cup would be devastating. i remember a specific moment when my feelings changed from "we have as good a chance as anybody" to "OH MY GOD, we actually should win a championship this year"

if the blackhawks win one of the next 2, they guArantee themselves 3 shots at winning the cup... with 2 of the 3 games at home.

just win one in philly. that's all you gotta do

what's the record for most consecutive wins to end a stanley cup winning season? do we have a chance with 9?

not saying i'm even thinking about a sweep, just interested in what the record is. i'd be thrilllllled with a split.

How much sicker would it look with two more wins?

i'm trying my hardest to just enjoy the moment and not look ahead too much. it's not working, but i'm trying

11. You guessed it: Pittsburgh Penguins, 1992, finishing it with a sweep of Chicago.

That's also the record for playoff win streak in a single season, tied by the 1993 Canadiens (who won the Cup but did not end it on the streak) and the 1992 Blackhawks, who won 11 straight going into the Final.

"We had a little turnover at the blue line. I talked to Matt Carle about it. He said his gap wasn't as good as he wanted it to be, so it allowed him to walk in," Leighton said of Eager's goal. "I just didn't see him release the puck. He made a good shot."

am i making too much of it, or was it weak for him to say that? kinda sounds like he's making excuses for a goal that is all on him and definitely not carle. that shot just can't go in under any circumstances in a stanley cup game. that was worse than any of his 5 in game 1.

Agree. Whether he was able to walk in or not it's still a Ben Eager wrist shot from 40 feet with no traffic or screens. Stop the puck or pull yourself. You give up a goal like that you shouldn't say a word about the turnover.

I remember that moment too. It was somewhere between the 2nd and 3rd goals in Game 2 against SJ

Pronger was once again a force, logging 27:52 in ice time, the most of any player for the second straight contest. After the game, he also got into a heated discussion with Ben Eager, who scored the winning goal for Chicago, and threw a towel at him. Eager described it as a "little postgame chat."

"He's been picking the pucks up after the game and I just told him he can keep it," Eager said.

Pronger was asked if he tossed a towel at Eager. "I don't know, did I? Wow. You're intuitive. Good for you. Next," he said.

Pronger would not elaborate on the conversation with Eager. "I don't speak that language, whatever he was speaking. I couldn't hear him," he said.

The general consensus around the blogs and news articles I've read (mostly neutral observers) is that the Flyers dominated the Hawks last night. And I did see a lot of that. I also saw a great defensive performance from the Hawks when the puck got into the Hawks zone, much more like the Hawks we've seen this year. I'm just a bit worried that we didn't come out and take control of the game and series like everyone expected them to. We should be able to destroy these guys but we aren't. Strangely lately we've been winning but winning differently than we did in the regular season. We've routinely allowed a ton of shots to the opponent, who has outshot us frequently. I don't know if its by design or what but it's a bit odd to see.

That said, like I've said it doesn't matter how you win at this point of the year. I'd rather see this than 2 well played losses with a couple bad bounces. I just want to make sure we can finish this off. I guess I should just be satisfied that we won 2 games where we didn't play our best and hope/assume we take control in Philly.

I felt Buff and Kane would be neutralized against Philly, and am not surprised Chicago hasn't dominated. But I also feel great that they are up 2-0 without playing their best yet, because so far in these playoffs they've struggled early and gotten better and better. They are the better team and if they have a great game in them, that's another win for sure.

Also, I read somewhere that this is only the 2nd time this year that Toews and Kane were held off the scoresheet for 2 straight games.

They've played two different style games so far in this series. Game 1 was a run and gun game, and Game 2 was a physical, defensive game. The Hawks won them both, but I think that second style is a much harder game for the Hawks to win at. I think by the third period last night, we had some tired, beat up guys out there. They didn't have the same speed or energy in that period.

All I want out of the next two games is a split. Come home 3-1 and finish this thing off.

Philadelphia dominated one period, and it just happened to be the one in which they had three power plays. The Blackhawks dominated the first period and I gave Philly a slight edge in the second period just because of some breakaway chances they had.

I really, really hope the ice in Philadelphia is better.

It's supposed to be hot as balls this week. I'm not sure about the ice surface reputation there (I've always heard Chicago's isn't good) but the arena is very similar to the UC in terms of being a cavernous place, for whatever that's worth.

What was disappointing about the third isn't that Philadelphia created a lot of chances. They were losing, so they cheated and pinched to get those chances. What's disappointing is that the Blackhawks didn't create any sort of counterattack to take advantage of that cheating and pinching. They did a fantastic job of this in the Vancouver series, especially game 6, but had nothing last night. I hope that isn't a trend.

Yeah, that was a hectic 3rd period, and really the Hawks didn't do much other than clear the puck.

They snuffed it out successfully, but I am also a little shaken by how much of the action Philly was able to control.

Philly is in the desperate position of needing to hold serve the next 2 games. I like the Hawks being in that position, but I'm also aware that Philly has played its best hockey when pressed against the wall.

It's not over.
