We dominated the 3rd period IMO. Great job to steal the momentum. Would still have been nice to win if the line in the 3rd was 4-3, but I think they gave the Flyers something to think about before game 2.

The way the Blackhawks played tonight, it is absolutely awesome to win that game. A very fortunate win but now they can hopefully settle down and play more consistent hockey with that first win of the series in hand.

Niemi gives up 5

Kane, Toews, Byfuglien are nearly no-shows (except for Toews' face-off wins)

4 penalties to none

And we won?

I thought Kane played OK. He created a couple of decent chances, but couldn't get any in. But I think they were -3 for the game, so obviously that's not great.

we may have just taken philly's best shot and survived

lopecky has been pretty good when he's played this postseason. i said that when he was dropped earlier too. i think he's definitely outplayed guys like burish and eager

and bolland will be a legend if we win the cup.

Hossa seemed like the only guy who brought it on both ends tonight. He's my favorite player. [expletive] the meatheads ragging on him for not scoring goals.

Thank God Leighton sucked tonight. D was terrible, ton of breakdowns, didn't clear the rebounds, the first line was a TOTAL no-show and yet we won. The Flyers are slower but they're skilled and will make the Hawks pay if they continue to have breakdowns. Of course the penalty advantage was huge though.

Yes but as someone said on the Second City roundtable, the Flyers aren't going to roll over at any point in the series. They're mentally (and physically I guess) tougher than any of the previous opponents. They'll keep coming.

When Ladd is healthy I would put him on the 4th line in place of Eager. Huge for Kopecky to step up the way he did. Same way Brouwer did after the layoff.

Once again, 0 penalties on Philly tonight. Second straight first game of a series where the opponent didn't have a penalty called on them, and we won both games by a goal.

If you're Philly, I don't see much positive you can take from it. Took advantage of several Hawks mistakes, got some fortunate bounces, got all the PP time, and didn't win.

"you lose the first game of the stanley cup finals and it's hard to sift through the positives now" from their coach just now.

Quennevile saying he didn't think about pulling Niemi because he knew it was the defense screwing up

And right he was.

Great character win for the Hawks. Even though he didn't play lights out, Niemi holding onto the lead for the last 11 minutes and change of the game spoke volumes about his mental focus for this game.

well i didn't really mean it that way. philly definitely will keep ocming. i'm just saying that we played about as bad as we could have, but still won.

yeah, pulling niemi at that point would have been ridiculous on many levels.

and niemi was really good in the 3rd, even though he didn't have to do a ton.

those non-calls on the interference on hossa and the high stick on seabrook were just atrocious. they weren't even out of position. they were right on the plays and somehow missed them
