He has been so solid for so long. He needs to either become one of our primary set-up men or to replace Silva when the inevitable stretch of terrible starts come or maybe even Gorzo. There is no excuse for Lou to keep him in such low-leverage situations

He hasn't been used in low-leverage situations either of his past two appearances. He came in in tight ballgames tonight and yesterday.

But yes, he's awesome and should be treated as such.

If he's not going to be a starter, I'd prefer Lou not use him as a LOOGY, rather as a 7th or 8th inning setup guy.

I think he'd be solid as a starter, at least better than Gorzo or Silva most likely, but look at his split stats last year

As a starter: 5.24 ERA, .829 opponent OPS

As a reliever: 3.23 ERA, .709 opponent OPS

To be fair though, those numbers are probably skewed because Marshall had to make a couple of spot starts that turned out disastrous, most notably the game in Colorado where he had 20 minutes notice to start the game when Z was scratched while warming up. He got shelled that game.

Yeah, I seem to remember his last start in the rotation (after he knew he was being demoted to the pen) being awful. He was pretty good before that.

Big fan of Sean. The guy has (IMO) more or less been denied a spot in the rotation that he deserves more than once. He just moves on and goes about his business and has been very good out of the pen, even prior to this season.

I have high hopes for Gorzelanny (probably higher than many anyway) as a starter so I'm hoping that Marshall will settle in to become the primary set-up man along with maybe Caridad.

Chris DeLuca of the Sun-Times (I think?) was on ESPN's First Take this morning and said that Lou is planning to use Marshall in the 8th inning more after the struggles of the other bullpen guys.

If he's not going to put him in the rotation, this is the next best thing, I guess.

I mean, it's the right call, but it's crazy how quick Lou's hook is with some guys.

Yeah, I'd rather see him as a starter but he's still the guy I trust most in the bullpen, so this isn't a terrible outcome.

Yeah, he definitely isn't patient.

Lou was all worried about the kids in the bullpen this year and after 3 games he hates Grabow.

If Caridad can pitch effectively (or Shark or Grabow), we could have a real good group of pitchers for the 7th through 9th innings. Marmol/Marshall is a nice back end of the pen.
