I am for the added revenue and for screwing over the Horseshoe rooftop.

 

I do wonder how this'll affect the views of the rooftops, though, given the fact that they're sharing profits with the team.

I guess they've figured out the rooftop issue, though...

 

Cubs President Crane Kenney said left-center field is the only place in the bleachers the team can place a billboard without blocking the views of rooftops from which fans watch games. The Cubs have long-term revenue-sharing agreements with rooftop owners.

This would be much more obnoxious and intrusive, as it's an illuminated/animated board in the style of the ribbons on the upper deck facade.

I'd bet this has more to do with kickstarting negotiations with that rooftop owner than meaningful ad revenue helping the team. It sounds like a awful looking sign that would be positioned more for blocking purposes than anything else.

The article implies (but doesn't directly state) that it would be a large LED advertising board. I think that would be significantly worse aesthetically than a normal ad board.

Didn't know the link was updated.

 

So it's not an electronic board (just backlit). But if they're going to put something like that up, it would look a lot better if it was shorter but took up the width of the entire bleacher section. I don't think the overlap with the Horseshoe ad helps.
