7 at-large teams with at least 13 losses got in (never had more than three teams)

5 at-large teams with at least 14 losses got in (there were six total from 1985-2010)

The only thing worse than VCU and USC getting at-large bids is all the experts complaining that it means Alabama got snubbed.

Dicky V railing about VaTech and Colorado and even Harvard, lol.

Colorado had a terrible RPI profile. Complain about the use of RPI, sure, but they weren't even borderline with that profile.

@DaveTelep: VCU was not gathered together as a team to watch the show. U know they are shocked but thrilled.

HOLY [expletive]!! KRUGER THEN POSSIBLY SELF???

There is no way this is random. The committee must be setting up games with good story lines. I wouldn't be surprised if the networks are pushing this. With the amount of money they pay for the rights it isn't inconceivable that they have some influence.

I've just never gotten all the rancor people make about the last in versus last out when to me the bigger deal is teams that aren't getting seeding correctly (Florida as a 2 seed for example). Between Colorado, UAB, VCU and VaTech please who really gives a [expletive] outside of those teams fans?

When will tip times be released?

Should be later tonight, if previous years are any indication.

A nondescript Illinois team playing Lon Kruger and Bill Self isn't a story. At all.

Edit: More than 50 miles outside of Champaign that is.

It wouldn't be the first time. Didn't they match up Lefty Driesell versus Maryland a few years back? I think it was like 10 years ago but I remember it.

PSU in has to be a make up bid for 2009

Compared to some of the other garbage that got in? They were 12-10 against Big Ten teams. If you include the tourney, they won the 4th most games against Big Ten teams this year.

I find it hard to feel bad for teams like Colorado and Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech especially because the reason why they missed the tournament in previous years was because they didn't schedule anybody out of conference.

Start scheduling teams out of conference. There, that wasn't so difficult.

No, they had a valid profile, really.

Yeah, Penn State's seed is pretty much a travesty, but they should be in the field somewhere.

I agree with Bilas. Harvard has a better case than UAB

Well, turns out UAB beat an at-large tournament team after all.

Since Chicago is within 50 miles and is a major media market that makes it a story. Doesn't matter if no one in Sacramento cares, they wouldn't care if a nondescript Illinois team was playing George Mason or Butler either. And if Illinois gets past UNLV the Self vs Illinois story line will be even more significant for the Chicago media market.

Looks like the best online bracket was Jerry Palm's bracket, which actually had VCU in, so he only missed 2.

I think Illinois got screwed in that they drew an 8 seed that could've been a 6 seed, and yet it's still an 8-9 game, so the second round is murder even if they do win. I'd much have preferred them to get a 6-11 game against UNLV in that BYU-Florida bracket (that I might just pick Michigan State to the elite 8).

Was just about to post this about Illinois. UNLV is pretty damn good. 5 of their 8 losses were to BYU and San Diego State
