Sweet lord take Weber Purdue.

I was just going to say, Weber to Purdue then Illinois can hire Pearl! =D>

:P

Shaka to Illinois. Sounds perfect.

Did anyone think Smart was a good coach before his team unjustly got into the tournament? He's lead VCU to a 5th and 4th place finish in the CAA with Anthony Grant's recruits.

Yes, but not this good.

Anyone read what was put on Yahoo sports yesterday by Brad Evans?

Host: Does Brad Stevens stay or does he leave?

Evans: I think he is going to stick around. Look it's going to take the perfect job in order to wrest away Brad Stevens away from Indianapolis. You know, one point I do want to bring up is this. An hour and a half west of Indianapolis is Champaign, IL. Lot of unrest there in CU right now with Bruce Weber. Obviously Weber's leash is still a little bit long [but] it's definitely tightened up. Let's say Stevens sticks around at Butler through next year, Weber has another lackluster season with marquee talent coming in, a top recruiting class. I wouldn't be at all surprised that could be ultimately the step that propels Brad Stevens to the high major stage and he travels west to Champaign, but only in those circumstances. I don't think the Tennessee job, the Providence job, or really any other job that is available I would see Brad Stevens leaving Butler for.

I don't think Stevens is a realistic option for Illinois. He's going to stay at Butler for at least another year and then we'll see what happens with Crean at IU.

They're in the Final Four, so obviously it was right for VCU to get in and Smart is one of the best 4 coaches in the country.

No way Crean gets fired with the recruits he has coming in. They've waited out his bad years.

No but a lot of us knew of and like Smart. I mentioned him earlier when I was asked who i would prefer to Weber.

Not trying to pick at you, but no results for you with the phrase vcu either.

All I'm saying is the first time the word "Shaka" was used in reference to Smart was last wednesday. The 2nd was after they beat Kansas.

I really want Stevens to stay and build Butler up into the next Duke. I really don't want to see him anywhere else for a while (especially [expletive] Duke).

Isn't Dawkins going to be the next Duke coach? or did that change?

I figured Collins since Dawkins dared to leave.

Well maybe it wasn't on here. I just know I liked him when I saw him early in the year. And Fran kept telling him to stay at VCu and not get caught up in the grass being greener.

Nothing changed - I was bouncing off some discussion earlier about his ideal fit being Duke. And while I agree, it would require me to hate him. And that would be sad.

I don't think I'd hate him even then. i think K is the reason I hate Duke. He became what he hated. Dean Smith.

Not being a smartass at all here. For once.

Would you care to expand on that?

I can't believe I'm still reading stories about this Painter to Missouri nonsense. Just give him that extension/raise and end the whole charade already.

The only thing I can figure is that they can't really afford to give him a raise. They gave him an 8 year extension to 1.3 million last April. If Mizzou is really offering upwards of 2.4 million, then I can't imagine that Purdue can really afford to go that high, if they can go up at all.

I just didn't think they would have to go nearly equal in pay. He's from Indiana, was a captain at Purdue, got the opportunity to go big-time from them and has spent 7-8 years there. I assumed if he left it would be for a top-tier job.

K early in his career said that he hated that Smith ran the ACC because of who he was. Said somehing about how UNC gets every call because of he refs being afraid of Dean. That's pretty much what he has become at this point.

Sure, he definitely gets all the calls, including the most egregious homer calls in sports, probably. But that's only one of the many reasons I hate him.

But, in what way are the refs "afraid" of K and Smith before him? Couldn't they just get the benefit of the doubt because they were both wildly successful and tended to churn out talent that was extremely well-coached fundamentally? Or do they wield some power over officials that I haven't considered? Otherwise, this sounds pretty paranoid.

Yeah, it doesn't really make sense. The only justification I've heard is that he'd get a pretty big raise, and that he also may have been irritated with the Athletic Department's stinginess in other areas too. Why it would be the Mizzou job that he'd choose to jump for, I don't really know.

If they're willing to make him one of the highest-paid coaches, that's as good a reason as any.

I can't think of anyone that wouldn't leave their job if they were being offered nearly double the salary at another job.

I don't know about that. I know several people who wouldn't take a job just because of higher pay. It's certainly an important consideration but hardly the only one.

For a public example, look at Brad Stevens. He quit his job to take a job that was probably less than 1/2 the salary he was making before.

Right. I don't even care if he agrees to a deal with Missouri and talks about how he's in it for the money. He can show up wearing nothing but a banana hammock made of $100 bills for all I care.

Gregory to GA Tech

An awful lot like Hewitt. He'll recruit well and they'll always look like they have absolutely no idea what they're doing offensively.
