Shouldn't we (Illinois fans) be rooting for OSU on Saturday? I think we can get in the dance even with a 9-9 record as long as we finish 4th place or higher. I don't want OSU to go undefeated but no one's going to catch them even if they lose on Saturday.

Yeah, a 9-9 mark in conference play will get you in this season.

Not sure what Illinois was doing at the end of the first half, but they actually played pretty well for most of the game. Welcome back, McCamey.

So the question is who do you start next game? I guess I go

McCamey

Paul

Cole

Davis

Leonard

?

I'm not really sold on starting DMac again, and wouldn't object to Jereme being in there somewhere.

McCamey, Paul, Richmond, Davis, Leonard.

Tisdale is useless right now. He can't do anything right.

I just really hope Weber learned his lesson that one game doesn't mean everything's changed. Like I said, I'd start DMac, but if he starts playing like McCamey of January sit his ass for 10 minutes. Leonard was pretty black holish on offense (just like Tisdale), but I was encouraged by his 0 fouls, as he's been a foul machine all year.

I guarantee you that Tisdale and DMac are both in the starting lineup in the next game. Weber doesn't have the balls to not start them 2 games in a row. I mean, they both started the 2nd half on the floor.

Should add I was encouraged that Leonard was playing during some crucial time late in the game. (Tisdale did too, but Meyers wasn't anchored to the bench in the 2nd half like I expected

if you give leonard the ball directly under the basket, he's pretty good. plus he's got good energy and is a decent rebounder, he needs some maturity, maturity that will come with playing.

And he can run the floor, and seems to have better hands than Tis, last night notwithstanding

Neither of them give you much on offense right now, so you really need to go with the better defender and all around player. That is Leonard.

That's who he is going to start. Jereme kicked his dog or something. But no big deal, it was only Klee who said several '13 kids questioned why Jereme wasn't getting to play right away.

Jereme specifically asked to come off the bench. He played the 3rd most minutes of anyone yesterday behind Davis and McCamey. Richmond playing time isn't an issue right now.

No he's getting anough minutes. I agree with that. But, it is worth noting many of the younger recruits have brought up him not starting to Klee. That's gonna be an issue with guys like Hamilton and Parker. They are gonna want to be starters from day one and not sit behind players with less talent.

Bruce specifically asked Jereme if he was more comfortable starting or coming off the bench, and Jereme said he'd rather come off the bench. If that makes the '13 recruits nervous, they just need to be better informed.

Hopefully they have been. I'm not the only one who saw when Klee mentioned that am I?

I had a quiet afternoon, so I went and ran some data on college teams. Using a combination of Pomeroy's ratings and Sagarin's ratings, I created a rating that took into account those pythagorean ratings (KenPom Pyth, Sag rating, Sag Predictor), SOS ratings for each, NC SOS for KenPom, and top 25/50 wins/losses according to Sagarin (KenPom doesn't publish those nice and easy).

I'd still like to find a nice, easy spot where I can grab R/N records for all college teams and get an idea of bad losses (all I calculated was non-top 50 losses, which makes a team like Illinois look better...totally not on purpose).

Things I didn't look at at all: Team name, conference name, conference record, W-L, RPI.

Yes, some of this ended up weird. Which I expected, really.

So, these are the results (autobids are highest projected team in each league, spoilered for huge):

Top 25/Locks:

1. Pittsburgh (BE Auto)

2. Ohio State (B10 Auto)

3. Texas (B12 Auto)

4. Kansas

5. BYU (MWC Auto)

6. Georgetown

7. Duke (ACC Auto)

8. Villanova

9. Notre Dame

10. Wisconsin

11. Kentucky (SEC Auto)

12. North Carolina

13. Purdue

14. Syracuse

15. UConn

16. San Diego State

17. Illinois

18. Washington (P10 Auto)

19. Louisville

20. St. John's

21. Marquette

22. Florida

23. Vanderbilt

24. UNLV

25. Arizona

Rest of at-large field:

26. Missouri (SOS issues)

27. Michigan State (#1 SOS...)

28. Minnesota

29. Maryland

30. Tennessee (#2 NCSOS)

31. Cincinnati

32. Virginia Tech

33. George Mason (CAA Auto)

34. St. Mary's (WCC Auto)

35. Temple (A10 Auto)

36. Texas A&M (Terrible SOS, especially NC)

37. Florida State

38. Kansas State (This is where it starts getting weird)

39. Penn State

40. Michigan

41. Clemson

42. Northwestern

43. Duquesne

44. UCLA

45. Utah State (WAC Auto)

46. Xavier

47. Gonzaga

Other bubble teams just left off:

48. New Mexico

49. Belmont (ASun Auto anyway)

50. California

51. Butler (Horz Auto anyway)

52. Alabama (and you thought A&M had a terrible schedule)

53. Georgia

54. Washington State

55. Boston College

56. Old Dominion

57. Richmond

58. Oakland (Sum Auto anyway)

59. Colorado

60. Rutgers

61. Providence

62. Baylor

63. Colorado State

64. UAB (CUSA Auto anyway)

65. Nebraska

66. Cleveland State

Other Auto bids:

67. Wichita State (MVC)

68. Charleston (SC)

69. Harvard (Ivy)

70. Long Beach State (BW)

71. Coastal Carolina (BSth)

72. Iona (MAAC)

73. Buffalo (MAC)

74. Bucknell (Pat)

75. Vermont (AE)

76. Montana (BSky)

77. Morehead State (OVC)

78. Long Island (NEC)

79. Florida Atlantic (SB)

80. Stephen F Austin (SLnd)

81. Hampton (MEAC)

82. Texas Southern (SWAC)

First four games project as: Duquesne-Gonzaga, UCLA-Xavier, Florida Atlantic-Texas Southern, and Stephen F Austin-Hampton.

Notes on weirdness:

- Holy crap, the back end of the bubble is weak, even if you disagree greatly with who is on the inside for now.

- Both Sagarin and Pomeroy love the Big Ten and Big East teams. Indiana, Seton Hall and Iowa would've been close to the back end of the bubble had they qualified (losing record)

- The results are very unkind to the non-big-6 conferences, which is why I'd like to incorporate more of the road/neutral numbers.

Just for fun, let's compare Alabama (SEC leader) and Penn State (Big Ten 8th place):

Alabama: 289th non-con schedule, 150th overall schedule, 3-8 road/neutral record, 1-1 vs. top 25, 2-2 vs. top 50, 2-6 vs. top 100, 2 losses outside the top 100, lost to Iowa

Penn State: 101st non-con schedule, 3rd overall schedule, 1-7 road/neutral record, 2-5 vs. top 25, 4-7 vs. top 50, 7-10 vs. top 100, 1 loss outside top 100, beat Iowa

The SEC is a monumental joke of a basketball conference.

Yet they should still get 4 bids (Kentucky, Vandy, Florida, Tennessee).

As weird as it is to see 11 Big East and 9 Big Ten teams in that field, I'm not so sure it's completely wrong based on the performance of the SEC, Pac-10, ACC and mid-majors. Sure, give the MWC 3-4 bids, the A-10 2-3 bids, and I totally agree George Mason, St. Mary's and Utah State (even with their cakey schedule) should make it. But the MVC has been bad, CUSA is terrible, and no other league has really stepped up aside from a single team. The bids have to go somewhere.

Holy God, Sullinger is inching up to my top-5 most punchable people. What a whiny, entitled, flopping piece of [expletive]

Can he top Bo Ryan crying during his halftime interview about foul calls?
