Can anyone tell me about Chicago forward Sam Thompson?

huge potential, long, very athletic, maybe the most athletic player in illinois from that class. has never developed into the player that he was supposed to be but continues to hang around in the rankings because he was hyped early. as far as the SF position goes, mycheal henry has passed him up. though not as athletic, henry is a great shooter and scorer.

thompson could be nice because of his untapped resources and whitney young is a player mill, but he has connections to oregon state and he may play his way into that echelon by the time his hs career is up.

Interesting. While you're here, how about a scouting report on Chasson Randle.

smooth combo guard. well-rounded and polished, pretty good scorer and can shoot from deep. does everything very well, but isn't great in any one area--unless you consider intelligence an area. he's #1 in his class (at rocky, but even still) and i believe is considering harvard among his potential destinations.

i'm not so big on him because he'd be redundant at illinois. we've always thought that he's been waiting for a KU offer, but he's said things that lead me to believe he's an illini lean (referring to the bball team as "we" or something like that.), but again, he may be an illini lean because kansas hasn't offered yet. self would be stupid not to offer, this kid is a real person not a mercenary, a 4-year "heart-and-soul" player that could lead the team to an NC.

goes to same high school where don nelson went, and if anybody remembers pete mickeal from cincy, he went there, too. i, on the other hand, went to the catholic school on the other end of town.

I get the feeling Self is slow-playing Randle, but I'm not sure who he's stalling for. (Not that Randle would automatically commit if Self offered. But Self hasn't offered yet.)

We're in on Josiah Turner, a PG out of CA.

And we're in an Ben McLemore, a SG out of StL. But McLemore is 6'5" and would likely play the three, I think. So I'm not sure he and Randle would be redundant.

Would Randle more likely be a point or a two if you had to define his position?

Pretty sure Kansas is waiting on Beal.

I hope not. There is almost no evidence that Beal is reconsidering. I know his family doesn't want him at UF, but he's been very solid on his commitment.

I'd be surprised if he didn't take a long hard look at wherever Rivers winds up. Though, I guess the clock is ticking on signing day.

I know Rivers is visiting other schools besides Duke, but is there really any chance he ends up anywhere else? I don't think so. And I don't think Beal ends up at Duke.

Josiah is KU's to lose. He probably won't qualify for UCLA or Cal.

I think Rivers ends up at Duke as well, but I was thinking one more trip out as an open recruit, even if it's to a school he won't wind up at can give Beal some second thoughts.

Davis up to #9(!!) in the most recent Scout 2011 ratings

i saw that as well. all of the illini players are in the top 100 with abrams(?!) falling to 93.

davis has become a must get, moreso than shaw at this point. bring 'em both in, just forget about 2012, and win an NC.

he shore is skinny tho.

So what exactly did Cal come up with that changed his mind so quickly? What a farce this guy is making of the NCAA.

Let's all not pile on Calipari here. Most likely the kid was just pressured into making a decision when his mind wasn't completely made up. The kid should be allowed to change his school if he felt it was best for him.

Won't matter. Coach Cal is untouchable. The talking heads at ESPN don't even go after him. I get he's Italian and thus Vitale is in love with him, but what about Bilas and Gotlieb? Why can't these guys even question him?

It's unfortunate they didn't pick the military guy. I'd love to see somebody try to BS him and get called on it. I get the feeling that it doesn't really matter who the talking head is because the NCAA hierarchy seems about as dirty, corrupt and old boy network as Congress is so nothing will ever change or get done.

cal is untouchable but kentucky is the most penalized program in the history of the ncaa. they, most certainly, are not.

What is there to go after Calipari for? I think we all agree that the NCAA is a sham and is a money-making organization masquerading as being about the student-athletes. I have no problem with coaches like Calipari who take one-and-dones and hand them off to the NBA, exposing the system for what it is.
