Any idea when the 1 and 2 seeds play their quarterfinal games?

EDIT: We would play at 2, 6:30 or 9 Wednesday. Then 2 or 8:30 on Friday. Bronze medal game is at 9 p.m. Saturday night on MSNBC (no HD again for DTV peeps) and Gold medal game is at 2 on Sunday.

I got family in Canada and I hold a duel citizenship with the country, but suffice the say I won't be hearing from the Cauncks side of my family anytime soon.

USA, USA, USA, eh!!!

If every hockey game could be broadcast without commercial interruption, hockey could be the #1 sport in America. That game was so intense and amazing.

Sweden leads Finland 1-0 at the end of 1.

If the US gets the 1 seed, they'll play the winner of Switzerland-Belarus in the quarters, and then likely the winner of a Czech Republic/Finland quarter in the semis. If they get the 2 seed, they'd play the Slovakia-Norway winner (Slovakia), and then the Russia-Canada winner in the semis.

Those B.C. tourism commercials are working. I was just in Seattle a few days ago for work. It was last minute, or I might have stayed the weekend and went up to Vancouver. I hear it's fantastic.

when i lived in seattle i used to go up there all the time with my wife. seattle is better, but vancouver is awesome.

I like both Seattle and Vancouver a lot, but my favorite city in that area is Victoria.

how do they clinch the 1 seed? if the sweden/finland game goes OT, or also if sweden wins by fewer than 6?

Yeah, pretty much.

EDIT: 2-0 Sweden now, midway through the second period.

EDIT 2: Sweden wins the tiebreaker with the US if they win by 5 and score at least 8 goals, or win by 6+.

It would be phenomenal to get the 1 seed. It almost guarantees the US makes it to the semis and guarantees that they don't face Canada or Russia until the Gold Medal game (and therefore would only have to face one of them).

Although, with all the talk about Russia, Canada and the US, anybody remember who won the gold, silver and bronze in 2006?

i guess sweden can win by as many as 5 (since the next tiebreaker is GF and USA had 8 more heading into this game) and USA still gets the 1 seed

edit: you beat me

Sweden's not six goals better than Finland. I'm still not worried.

That game was amazing. Easily the best sixty minute hockey game I've ever witnessed. I'm sure glad ice dancing trumped it!

Oh and how awesome did the Hawks look tonight? Kane made a lot of nifty moves, even though he didn't convert on any of them. That one move where he was able to just fly by a couple of Canucks and get to the net was incredible. And in a losing effort, Toews and Keith were probably Canada's best players tonight. Seabrook was decent too. Couple that in with Hossa's performance for Slovakia and the Hawks are having themselves quite the Olympics right now.

USA clinches the 1 seed and will play the winner of switzerland/belarus on wednesday.

assuming canada takes care of business against germany, they'll have to face russia in the second round.

ouch

unbelievable that russia or canada will be done after the quarterfinals. a lot of people thought they would meet in the gold medal game.

then the winner of that game gets sweden, who is looking really strong. that side of the bracket is stacked. we probably get the swiss in the quarters, then the winner of that probably gets the finns or czechs. that side of the bracket is much easier.

"We're here to be the last ones standing and we're still alive," goalie Martin Brodeur said. "We're throwing 45 shots at these goalies and they are making stops facing forward, backward, sideways. Eventually we'll be more successful."

yeah marty, it would also help if you could stop more than 18 of 22 shots

I think the USA would have to seriously overlook their QF opponent to not at least make it to the semi's. And if that's the case, they are looking good for a medal. If they lose in the semi's, they'll play for the bronze, and if they win they goto the finals. What a big win this was.

they should beat the swiss (or belarus, i guess) and then it would be a very good game against either the czechs or finns. the canucks, ruskies and swedes are the three best teams IMO, so it's great that they're all on the other side of the draw. the downside is that if we lose to finland or the czech republic in the semis, then we'd very likely have sweden or canada/russia waiting for us in the bronze medal game.

Yep. Russia was clearly a superior team to the Czechs yesterday. I've yet to see Finland play in the Olympics..

The Swiss are capable of beating us, though it would require us coming down to their level a bit which shouldn't happen after a bye. They played us tough the first time and took Canada to the shootout.

Side note, yesterday we watched a DVR'ed show called "Sid the Kid vs. Alexander the Great: Olympians". It was produced in Canada and aired on the NHLN later. At least 25 times the narrator and all of the Canadian experts talked about how great a Russia/Canada gold medal match would be and that they're the two favorites. Ha Ha.
