So all the idiot "experts" who gave up on the Saints despite scoring the 9th most points in NFL history this year because they lost 1 game and then pretty much didn't have anything to play for in the last 2. Meanwhile the Cardinals give up 45 points on defense last week and everyone picks them to win. Experts are dumb.

i remember when Brees was a FA and Marinelli and Millen didn't even consider looking his way, opting for Jon Kitna instead

i never really understood that

Nobody did, I don't recall anyone having a ton of interest in Brees when he was a FA. I think a lot of people attributed his numbers to LT, Gates, Schottenhimer, etc.

If Brees was an unrestricted FA after this season and the Saints made it known he wasn't coming back, I would think it would be the biggest story in sports before he signed somewhere. How many times in the history of this league has a QB of Brees caliber been an unrestricted FA with his previous team making no effort to resign him?

so that could be kurt warner's last play in his career? throwing an interception and then getting completely destroyed after the change of possession, in a playoff game where his team gets blown out? probably not the way he dreamed it would happen.

edit - apparently he did not die after all.

With the rise of Early Doucet in the playoffs along with having Breaston and Urban as #3/4 options I don't think it will be completely out of the question if the Cardinals let Boldin leave and not spend the money on him in the offseason.

he was also rehabbing a badly dislocated shoulder at the time. i wasn't sold and thought it was a risky move, too.

He wasn't even considered a top 10 QB in the league at the time and he had a mixed bag of results in his time in San Diego. He wasn't a slam dunk signing and nobody probably saw him becoming the top 3 QB he is today..

I completely forgot about that. That's a very valid point, I remember thinking the same thing. I thought he was a very good QB with potential to be top 5 in the league but there were a lot of issues raised about his shoulder.

He wasn't at the time considered top 10, but his previous 2 years he had 3159 years with 27 TD/7 INT and 3576 with 24 TD and 15 INT. You saw how much the Bears gave up for a QB with less success in the league. But with his shoulder injury that puts his demand into perspective.

Their could be an abnormally high turnover rate with kickers this offseason. A lot of guys had really bad years and I would assume most teams will at least draft a guy or invite a guy or two into camp and try them out.
