This just made my day! Does he go in as a Cub or an Expo though? I think the case could be made for both, but I dont know I see him in as a Cub.

I think it's a no brainer that he goes in as an Expo. He was a much better player in Montreal. Plus, I think the "remember the Expos" sentiment is already taking over.

I'm sure he goes in as an Expo. Or would it be a National? :-k

Either way, he was my favorite player when I was a kid and this is great news.

I think it's Expos. Walter Johnson didn't go in as a Twin, for example.

I'm shocked Alomar did not make it. I wonder if this is the one year slap on the wrist for spitting on the ump.

I think Alomar is HOF matrial, but not necessarily 1st ballot matrial.

that's probably the one baseball cliche that drives me the most insane

Me too. Either he's a HOF or he's not. Unless you want to make a separate wing in the HOF for "First Ballot HOFs" and put them on another level, it's stupid.

and if the guy who's probably the 2nd best at his position all time isn't first ballot, then who is?

Would you advocate a "one-and-done" voting system then? You get one try and then you're out for eternity?

For a split second that sounds like a good idea, but perceptions of eras change in baseball and it affects how we view careers.

+1 I don't agree with Boers and Bernstein with a lot of their opinions, but when they rant about the baseball hall of fame I find myself agreeing wholeheartedly. The criteria should be:

'Is player x a hall of famer?' The answer should be Yes or No. A maybe equals a no.

They also went through the entire hall of fame and basically culled 60% of the members in there. It was really great radio as the Baseball Hall of Fame carries the most meaning behind it and the criteria to join should be that way.

Like you said, it sounds interesting. Maybe something like "If X player doesn't make it on first ballot, he must wait 5 years to be voted on again" And if that sounds too steep for older people who want to be alive when the call comes, you can either make it so they are on the ballot every year after the 5 years, or you can reduce the wait (so 5 years after not getting in at first, then 3, 2, then every year). I think this would reduce people from considering "1st ballot, 2nd ballot, 3rd ballot, etc" from their voting. Do you think Alomar would have been voted in this year with that rule in place?

I definitely see your point, but I don't think it would be that big of a problem. People should get into the hall based on their performance in the era. I always sort of ask myself was this player in the discussion for best player of the decade when he played? Take all of that with a grain of salt though as I think Barry Bonds/Rose etc should be in the hall.

If I'm ever going to Cooperstown, this is the year.

6 gold gloves as an Expo, 2 as a Cub

3 AS appearances as an Expo, 5 as a Cub

ROY as an Expo, MVP as a Cub

225 HR's as an Expo, 174 as a Cub

838 RBI's as an Expo, 587 as a Cub

Could go wither way, but will most likely be as an Expo. Would he be the first?
