WEDNESDAY, 6:15pm: Crosby will earn $1MM before incentives next year according to Kovacevic. He can earn another $500K in incentives based on plate appearances.

 

Gotta bless their hearts for trying. Watch this spring as the former ROYs fall from grace is completed as he battles Ronny Cedeno for the Pirates SS job.

Astros sign Brandon Lyon for 3/15. Apparently boneheaded bullpen signings are in for NL Central clubs this offseason.

 

Dumb move by the Astros... Lyon wanted 2/9, which would come out to $4.5 mil, instead the Disastros are giving him $5. He's not a lock to repeat his success, as was evident by his 2008 season

Only signed through this season and he has made it sound like he wants to test the FA market after his current deal is up and the Cubs likely do not have and will not have the money to extend him. Couple that with what they'd have to give up to get him and it's a frustrating matter of bad timing that unfortunately makes it not worth the Cubs getting involved.

I would reject that with the swiftness of a thousand cheetahs

... and the Twins would take that over what they got for Johan Santana with even less hesitation than that.

i also like the Boof!!! signing by the Red Sox

Where is Lowell going to play on the Rangers? DH? They moved Young to 3B last year to make room for Andrus, maybe Lowell could switch to 1B?

I would think DH and possibly 1st...he can do all 3, including 3rd, in a pinch though...

 

the rangers are ready to shock the world this season, except for 1st base. I am not sold on Davis, and I don't think Smoak is ready. Some Ranger fans were wanting Cantu over Lowell, and I can understand why, but I don't think Lowell is a bad piece if used correctly.

This doesn't help Hendry in the slightest, either. A guy who can play a corner infield position, doesn't cause a media circus on a daily basis and only has 1 year on his contract still has 75% it picked up by his former employer without taking back an equally bad contract in return. Actually, a pretty highly respected prospect at one time, although I think he's fallen below the radar a little bit of late.

Why do you always bring on the Santana package like it's the new starting point for trading for an ace? That clearly was a botched up situation and not a true indication of that kind of player's value, yet you constantly bring it up when talking about Halladay.. as if we're ridiculous to think the package that gets him isn't going to be like the one the Mets got.

 

Just because one team screwed up a trade for an ace in recent years doesn't mean you need to start talking about it every time an ace is on the market.
