To help pass the off-season, I'm trying to read baseball related books (most recently "Luckiest Man" about Lou Gehrig). Sometimes the sports books can be real cheesy, so I'm looking for good recs.

Any suggestions/recommendations?

If you're into baseball history three I recommend are The Glory Of Their Times (generally considered one of the best baseball books ever; about the early years, told by players from that era), Wrigleyville (probably the most comprehensive history of the Cubs), and 1908 (the story of that season, focusing mainly, but not exclusively, on the Cubs).

I meant Crazy 08 when I said 1908; I got the title mixed up. I was writing my reply at the same time OMC was (he beat me by a few seconds).

If you like the Cubs, I'd read Crazy 08. It's now in paperback I think.

Seconded, it's really fascinating how unorganized and crazy Major League Baseball was back then.

I've heard nothing but good things about this book. I'm going to read it after I finish up Banana: The Fate of the Fruit that Changed the World.

I enjoyed Eig's other book as well, Opening Day about Jackie Robinson.

I am about halfway through "Munson" and so far I am really enjoying it. It is written by the Yankees PR guy at the time and it is full of a lot of great stories. Crazy 08 was great. Clemente by Maraniss is fantastic (one of the greatest books that I have read regardless of subject).
