It seems pretty redundant to run down the team when they don't have a leader of any kind really either on the floor or in a coach right now.

It was pretty well understood they'd struggle this year. At least from my perspective. Still, I wasn't expecting last night to happen.

True, I went into this expecting an off year without Gordon and waiting for the FA bonanza, but I didnt expect Vinny to still be this bad. You couple that with Rose either being too young or simply not having the personality to lead on the court and you've got a young team that's basically rudderless out there.

Would anyone by interested in Byron Scott or Avery Johnson? I just want Vinny gone because I really don't see any of the big FA coming here with Vinny as coach. Byron and Avery have both worked with talented point guards before, and they were the 2 names mentioned on the radio this morning.

I'd be interested in Avery Johnson. Scott not so much.

For a guy who played on the Showtime Lakers and coached Kidd and CP3 he sure has his teams play at a slow tempo. This team needs to start running.

Note to our fearless leaders: you hire a guy who doesn't even know what the job is. This is what you get.

I'm just really interested in seeing Pax & Reinsdorf not doing stuff anymore that obviously has little chance of working. Let's stay within the realm of likely success, instead of unlikely success, please. It can't be that hard.

Hiring Vinny was a dumb move from the beginning, and many people who are only casual observers said it at the time. That means it wasn't that hard to see. So this is a big disappointment from a leadership standpoint. I don't even blame Vinny.

I'm skeptical of how much a good coach could do with this team. Maybe consistently drilling into Derrick's head to take the team by the horns is the biggest thing a coach could do. Other than that, the talent just ain't there. It's pretty obvious your team has major talent issues when losing Thomas and Hinrich to injuries exposes glaring weaknesses.

There's some nice individiual players and they don't even fit together particularly well. There's little 3 point shooting and no post presence to speak of. Salmons and Miller look like they've fallen off a cliff since last year. Gibson is merely a backup PF in this league and he's getting tons of minutes (when he's not in foul trouble) because of the Thomas's injury. Lindsey freakin' Hunter is getting run and the guy who normally plays his minutes can't shoot either.

I think a good coach could wring more production out of the talent that is there (ala Skiles) by stressing consistent defense and an up tempo style of ball. But these guys that have been lousy shooters their entire careers aren't going to suddenly become good though. Noah isn't gonig to turn into Karl Malone in the pivot either.

Only a fool would think there isn't significant things this team needs to improve even if they do get one of the big FA signings, but to say that the talent isn't there is also rather foolish.

Well coaching is a problem, even a big one. If we had the talent to be contenders Vinny wouldn't be the guy to guide us to a championship. I'm just saying Phil Jackson wouldn't get us there either.

80% of NBA head coaches are just retreads who kind of muddle through an assortment of decent, .500, or outright crappy seasons. Guys like Phil and Popovich matter a lot but most head coaches are reasonable facsimilies of each other.

Yeah but Vinny is very clearly making mistakes that other coaches aren't making. It's right there for the world to see during the games. You've got to believe if the gaffs are that visible, there's a ton of other stuff underneath that sucks too.

It's like anything else. You likely only see the tip of the iceberg.

What sort of mistakes is he making? I really know nothing of basketball strategy, so I'm serious. As a casual observer it seems to me the Bulls put too much faith in a mediocre journeyman who had a couple nice months, and just aren't very talented.

The biggest problem is playing a half court game without any floor spacers or absolutely no post presence to speak of. When the Bulls were good after the Salmons/Miller trade last they played an up tempo style and were one of the better offenses in the league.

I also hate his handling of Rose. He's the only player on the team that can thrive with the ball in his hands in a full court style of play. He's also the only player on the team that can break down a defense off the dribble. So instead of working to those strengths the Bulls slowed way up from last year (to focus on rebounding and defense probably without Gordon) and call tons of pick and rolls with big men who are not good pick and roll players instead of letting Rose create in isolation.

It looked like in the beginning that the defense and rebounding were a lot better but that hasn't been the case lately. So now they're a slow tempo, average rebounding team, that doesn't want to guard anyone any more.

VDN when asked if he's worried about being fired

"We're fighting with what we have. We'll keep on fighting. And those decisions aren't up to me."

we're fighting with what we have? why don't you man up and take some responsibilty and not blame it on the players

"Fighting with what we have." Yea because the loss of Tyrus and Kirk is just so damn detrimental to this teams ability to beat the [expletive] Nets.

Just off the top of my head, not calling a defense to defend the 3 against the Celtics in OT last year stands out. It wasn't that Ray Allen drained the 3, it was that nobody was even covering the line.

I'm no basketball strategist either. I do see things like this, and I wonder why we can't have a coach who at least has some experience. I definitely agree there are holes in the roster though.

Hawk players uncontested under the basket. That's about all I took from that first half. A couple fleeting Rose moments.

LOL...I was playing Madden. When I turned to Madden it was 41-31 Hawks. When I turned back it was 83-53. What a disaster of a team.

I don't care who you are, or how many injuries you have, a team that gets blown out almost every night is not going to retain it's coach for very long.

What?

You don't think the guy who said publicly that he'd trade his 6 NBA titles (headline by the greatest and most marketable athlete of all time) for 1 World Series for his 2nd fiddle baseball team is serious about building a winner?
