with msu losing tonight, only four teams in the big ten have 2 or fewer losses. i figure that these will be the teams fighting for the bcs and new year's day bowl games.

current standings:

Iowa 5-0

Penn State 4-1

Ohio State 4-1

Wisconsin 3-2

here's what everyone has left in conference:

iowa: northwestern, @ohio st, minnesota

penn st: ohio st, indiana, @mich st

ohio st: @penn st, iowa, @mich

wisconsin: @indiana, michigan, @northwestern

iowa will make the bcs unless they lose twice, which is very unlikely given their schedule. at worst they should finish 11-1 (7-1). penn st will also make the bcs if they win out, which i'd say they have about a 50-60% chance of doing. wisconsin has a good chance to win out and i think they should only have two losses in conference. ohio st has a tough schedule left and could conceivably win out (in which case they're definitely bcs-bound), but could also easily go 1-2 and have 4 losses.

i'll predict:

iowa to the rose

penn st to the fiesta

wisconsin to capitol one

ohio st to outback

Wisconsin also has a game at Hawaii to finish their season on December 5th for some bizarre reason.

I think it's kind of traditional for a BCS school to travel to Hawaii to finish the year for both teams. It's also kind of traditional for that team to play like crap.

I think Ohio State would go to the capital one bowl over Wisconsin. I see them losing to Penn State and beating Iowa with Iowa getting the Rose Bowl, Penn State getting the other BCS and Ohio State going to the capital one with Wiscy in the outback.

i had phio st losing to both penn st and iowa. i decided to stop picking against iowa after the wisconsin game, so i'm picking them to win out. but, i'm also picking texas and either bama or florida to win out, so that would put those teams in the "championship game" and iowa in the rose.

i think the bcs shakes out with:

2 sec teams (this is basically a lock)

1 big east team (this is a lock)

1 acc team (also a lock)

1 big xii team (only way this gets messed up is if texas wins out during the regular season but loses to a big xii north team in the conference title game; texas could get selected at large)

1 pac 10 team (kind of a shame that the best conference gets only 1 bcs bid)

boise st

tcu

2 big ten teams (for this to happen, i think penn st or ohio st probably have to win out)

-if texas loses in the big xii title game then it's either them or one of the big ten runners-up who gets left out.

-if psu and osu each lose at least once more then i think there's a pretty good chance that the big ten only gets one bcs bid and a team like usc could still go.

penn st: ohio st,

Beat the piss out of OSU next week.

As impressive as Oregon was tonight, I've got a feeling they get tripped up again this year.

Why? That only means you'll lose to a 3 loss team ;)

That means we'll still go to the Rose Bowl though even with an OSU loss(if we beat Northwestern and Minnesota).

I don't really expect to ever see Iowa win at OSU in my lifetime so I'm expecting a loss.

the question is how can Iowa plan an SEC team in a bowl game? What has to shake out for that to occur.

Outside of playing Bama/Florida in the NC game, it's unlikely. Iowa/Oregon in the Rose Bowl is looking more and more likely

Why, you want to watch us beat down your conference again? :D

if ohio st wins out, do they go to the rose bowl? looking at their schedule i think it's pretty unlikely, but one has to consider that possibility. do they get precedence over iowa because of the head to head win, or does iowa go because of the dumb "longest time since going to a rose bowl" rule?

Ohio State goes because of the head to head. I'm not even sure if the "longest time since" rule exists anymore.

Probably the latter. But at least Iowa can claim to be Big Ten Champs despite losing to OSU (kinda like OSU did last year....buttholes)

Correct.

If OSU wins out they go to the Rose Bowl.

If Iowa wins out they go to the Rose Bowl or National Championship.

Penn State needs to win out and have Iowa lose twice.

Iowa goes if they win the two home games and OSU loses once.

If Penn State beats OSU and OSU beats Iowa and Iowa wins the rest then Penn State and Iowa are co-champs with Iowa going to the Rose Bowl if I'm correct.

i think our goal this year is to see how many points a team can win by and still be lucky to win. so far we are at "at least eighteen"

hopefully we catch a few breaks againts nw next week and sneak past them by 21 or so.

you'd think iowa fans would be happy with a 9-0 record, some chance at the title game and a very likely conference championship and rose bowl berth in 19 years, and wouldn't really care about whether their team is respected.

They still have games at Stanford, at Arizona and at home against Oregon State so I wouldn't be surprised if they did lose again.

I know they run the option so the pass can catch teams off guard but Georgia Tech's QB completed six passes for 193 yards today. That's 193 yards per completion.

can we throw "Iowa" on the word filter?

sure, don't want to muddy the waters of all the riveting Missouri discussion

Yeah that's what I was talking about. Good thing your wife put the kids to bed tonight so you could enthrall us with more riveting posts.
