Can anyone say Benson would be doing better with our OLine anyway? I can't. Look at the great blocking he's getting. I'm happy for him, but I find it likely he'd continue to struggle with the Bears if he would have stayed.

Forte isn't the same back this year. Any RB would struggle behind this crap but Forte hasn't really helped the situation. I've seen him miss cutbacks and just in general not done anything to make a play out of nothing...good backs do that.

Which isn't to say that Forte is the problem here but he's not really done anything to be part of the solution either.

That's probably true but, some blame must be put on Forte, he never looks up. There was a perfect opprotunity earlier in game, when it was still in doubt, for him to bounce it outside yet, he run's into the middle of the pile.

Buddy Ryan should have been immediately fired after that Monday night game in '85 by the way.

Quit being so dense.

Dense is saying that the Bears need to change their scheme after one bad game. No one does this.

dense is pretending that people on this board are just now calling for a change in the coaching staff.

dude i rarely even go in bears threads and i know a lot of the posters here want a change.

Were they calling for one when they were 3-1? With the players the Bears have, they are only 8-8 or 9-7. The coaching staff can't get any more than that out of them.

The Bears need new players more than a new staff.

1. When the Bears were 3-1, people still wanted Turner gone and were still questioning Lovie's defensive scheme, who hadn't done anything to change that and now faces an uphill battle to regain any confidence.

2. The necessity of new players does not change the necessity of a new staff.

3. Lovie has always seemed over matched as a head coach. This is not new sentiment, and has become strikingly evident this year.

4. How has this staff done anything to warrant keeping it in place as is?

That was especially evident today, Bengals having great success running the ball yet, he does'nt change the defensive alignment. Keeps going with the same front that the Bengals were destroying.

I think today's loss was just a bump in the road. They will be a .500 team at the end of the year and they are right there now. Lovie and his staff have had one of the best records since he started as head coach. And they have had far worse talent than the other teams around them. Is Lovie a great coach? No. But he has had one of the best records with just barely above average talent. I would like to see what he can do with good talent.

Right, but I wasn't really talking about Forte. People seem to be lamenting the loss of Benson based on what they are seeing with him on the Bengals. But it's really sketchy to say he'd be doing that as a Bear. It's likely he wouldn't be close, and people would not feel much better about Benson than they did a couple years ago.

I think Benson has more talent than Forte. But with the way this offensive line is playing, it wouldn't matter much.

Forte got a lot of work last year, much more than he was used to. I wouldn't be surprised if that has something to do with his lack of production. I think Michael Turner is going through the same thing.

He had two good years in 05 and 06. Since then the team has been mediocre, going 7-9, 9-7, and now 3-3. He is a mediocre coach.

Now, I highly doubt he will be gone before his contract is up in 2011, but don't act like he is anything more then what he is, and don't get all high and mighty just because fans want a great coach, especially when Shanahan and company are available.

is cutler the most overrated quarterback in the nfl? even when he was good the past couple years he was throwing a ton of interceptions. he just a pretty goodquarterback, and that's it.

What can be done to improve? I'm thinking there's got to be a change in the offensive line, Frank O. should be benched, he's the weakest of the weak links. The defensive line, I don't theres anything that can be done, why not go with an all out blitz scheme? Sure, there's the chance that'll give up some big plays but, the secondary cannot cover anyone so, what's the difference? At least there's a chance they'll get to the QB before the ball is thrown. The talent Lovie is given is worse than Lovie's coaching ability.

And? That doesn't mean that we should be satisfied with Lovie.

And I argue that the talent he has and his ability are about par with each other.

The Bears are a terrible blitzing team. They tend to get plugged up at the line. The defensive line has to play better. Tommie Harris is the key to this Cover-2 since he can/used to be able to put pressure on the QB enabling the ends to get single covered. Since he hasn't been himself and was injured today, nothing much can be done.

Fine. But there are bigger problems to fix and they should be fixed first. Lovie used to have a great defense. The scheme is the same. Lovie is the same. The players aren't.

Well, they've shown when they do blitz they generally suck at it. And Lovie had a great opportunity to go to Beekman this week and declined to make that change.

At this point I don't expect big changes, based on my understanding of Lovie and the talent (or lack of it) on the roster. They'll probably just ride it out, hoping for better results with what they have.

So we should keep Lovie because he refuses to adjust his scheme to fit his personnel? That is a great reason to keep a coach.

Who changes a scheme in the middle of the year? Plus, it is not like they are in Cover-2 the entire game. Maybe 50% of the time.

His personnel stinks no matter what scheme. You work on a scheme all during training camp. If you change your primary scheme at this level, you will get burned all the more. The Bears need to play better IN the scheme. That is why they practice all week.

I mentioned it earlier but, was anyone else POed that the Bears seemed absolutely thrilled Benson was doing so well? Helping him up, talking to him, smiling, tapping him on the helmet, what the eff?

I agree. We saw too much of that. It was fine in the beginning... but it continued which was just stupid.

I don't think I normally would care. Professional sports in 2009 has a much high level of fraternization than it used to. That is just the way it is. But the defense used to hate him when Cedric was there, how much more now that he is on the other team? Plus they were getting gashed by him all day.

Well that wasnt much fun. Pretty much everything sucked. It was so bad i dont even feel like analyzing the game because it was such a cluster and i wouldnt know where to start or end it.

Perhaps that was some players' way of saying they didn't totally agree with how he was being treated when he was in Chicago -- even if they didn't want to speak up at the time.

Could be but, can't that come before and after the game? During the game they should have been looking to seperate his head from shoulders, hit him so hard he doesn't want that next carry. Not congratulate him after every run, letting him know how fantastic he's running.

I know, I don't really like seeing this either. Especially not when they are being destroyed. I also didn't see much in the way of players being angry with themselves, although obviously we only see a fraction of what is happening.
