Seems he's more about mechanics and less about approach. I think that's a good thing, as long as the team's mindset in terms of discipline stays where it is, and I think Lou is all about that.

Absolutely. Bring the guy on board and get him to work looking at tape and watching BP and have him add a toe tap here, widen a guy's stance there and see what he can do, just make sure the team doesn't start hacking at the first pitch every single at-bat.

Levine reporting that the Cubs are interested.

Bruce Miles agrees:

Jaramillo could top Cubs' wish list

Posted by Bruce on Wed, 10/14/2009 - 19:28

Word out of Dallas this evening is that hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo has turned down a one-year offer to return to the Texas Rangers. He's under contract until Oct. 31, and it's believed the Cubs have some interest in hiring Jaramillo to fill their vacancy at hitting coach. GM Jim Hendry fired Gerald Perry in June and replaced him with Von Joshua, who was informed on the last day of the season that he would not be asked back in that capacity but that he could return to the minor leagues with the Cubs.

Jaramillo, who enjoyed a good working relationship with, of all people, Milton Bradley, was with the Rangers since 1995.

I could see this being there 1 offseaon move. If they dont have a lot of money to spend, rather than paying 10 mil or so for an RBI producer, why not pay however much a hitting instructor makes (1-3 mil?) in hopes that he can make the guy who was supposed to be an RBI producer productive?

Like I said during the speculatory panic over Ryno possibly becoming hitting coach, I really doubt Lou will just sit idly by and watch a hitting coach come in and teach something completely different from what he believes. Lou is a very big proponent of patience at the plate and bringing in a hitting coach who teaches the opposite of that would not work at all, I would think. And with Hendry's tendency to cater to his manager, I really doubt Hendry would force a hitting coach on Lou.

Uhh I think they know that very well, and aren't as convinced as you that Jaramillo's teachings will fly in the face of that philosophy

You're right. I'm just having a crap day and figured I would take it out on the Cubs.

Maybe he would preach power and taking good hacks at the right pitch. Yet, Lou would still stress OBP as well.

Sounds like it could be the best of both worlds.

Although Cubs like it would be disastrious and we would have the lowest OBP and power numbers in the league.

Good news. Even with the questions brought up about whether his success should be attributed to the Ballpark in Arlington or not, he's still probably the best hitting coach currently available.

That's awesome if true.

Go get him, Jim.

I wonder if Lou is a catalyst behind this, or if this is all Jimbo.

But Hendry is the biggest idiot ever for firing Perry and Von Joshua?

*I'm an idiot for putting Clines.

Yes, if this is true, you have to love Hendry's aggressiveness.

Knowing Hendry he'll probably give him a 7-year, 8-figure contract with a full NTC or something.

Did Hendry know that Jaramillo would be available? Is Joshua going to accept the move back to Iowa?

1. Potentially, you never know what information is known on the insides in MLB before it becomes public information. It's possible Hendry knew there was a strong possibility Jaramillo would be leaving Texas.

2. I think everything reported has indicated Joshua will be accepting a assignment somewhere in the organization.

That kind of argument doesn't really fly 'round here. We're privy to pretty much everything Hendry knows, if not more.

Good news. Get it done. Then get him a friend, named Dave Duncan. We'll sign Chris Duncan if that's what it takes to get him here.

Sign Shelley too if that's what it's going to take. [expletive], I'd agree to a platoon with Chris and Shelley in RF if it brought Dave in.

AM I the only one who will find it amusing if after millions and millions of dollars worth of overpaid outfielders, 3 million or so for a hiting coach is the final piece of the puzzle?
