  1. Wow...It must be the off season and there is nothing else to talk about. 3 pages already about a hitting coach.
  2. It was the Henry Schueler Foundation (http://www.henryschueler.org/). They were raising money for research into juvenile leukemmia.
  3. Wrong. He replaced Dennis FitzSimmons as the Tribunes man in charge of the Cubs in 2003
  4. So much for the Alderson talk that he was going to become the new president. According to ESPN 1000, Kenney is staying. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/news/story?id=4421661
  5. Kenney is staying... http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/news/story?id=4421661
  6. Has anyone seen this? http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CHC/2008.shtml
  7. No...The Cubs picked him up fairly quickly after the Padres released him last year. Now this year, the CUbs let him go after the end of the 2008 season. It's been several months he has been out there and not even a sniff at someone picking him up. There must be a reason for that, and I believe it's because all the ML teams believe he is done.
  8. Seeing that nobody picked up Edmonds, I would say that he is done and it was a good decision to pass on him for 2009. That being said, I also wish they picked up Abreu. He would have really looked good in right as opposed to Uncle Milty.
  9. FWIW. Friday on his radio show, Kaplan talked to Will Caroll and Caroll mentioned Adam Dunn as someone he would go after if he were the Cubs, but he had not heard anything about the Cubs making a run at Dunn.
  10. OK...say we get him, who would he replace? Soriano? No, I don't think so. Johnson/Fukudome in Center? No again. Fukudome has the huge contract and is starting to hit a bit better lately (especially in the leadoff position). Bradley/Fukudome in right? No. As big as a bust Bradley is, there is no way we are just going to replace him on an everyday basis with someone like Pierre. No, I just don't see anything like this happening.
  11. According to this story, http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-25-cubs-brite-chicago-jul25,0,5001733.story , Dempster will start on Tuesday
  12. Just as an aside, If you put in the name SSOSA and #21, it will allow you to do that. You can then take the extra "S" off. http://i28.tinypic.com/orqzol.jpg
  13. Thanks alot guys. While talking with my co-worker, I thought of Anson & Williams off the top of my head. We talked about Sosa, but as other people here have said, his involvement with PED's taint what he has done, but for 5+ years, he was an awesome hitter enough to make us lean towards Williams & Anson. Even though I am not a Stathead like most of you guys, I do appreciate your input on this one.
  14. Hi All...1st time poster, long time lurcker. I am not really sure of what section to put this in, but since it is about Cubs players past & present, I placed it in Cubs Discussions. If the mods feel it should be moved to another section, please feel free to do so. I value all of your guys opinions here and I was asked by a co-worker who knew I was a rabid Cub fan the following question and I did not have a real good answer for him. He had just watched a show on HBO about Ted Williams and how he might have been the best hitter of all time. He asked me who in Cubs History has been the best hitter the Cubs have had. I really could not answer the question. In my mind, the Cubs have not really had a good all-around hitter like a Ted Williams. They have had sluggers like Banks, Sauer, Sosa (yes, I know that his slugging prowness came from a bottle),Billy Williams, Hack Wilson, Santo and such. They have had some hitters like Grace, Anson, Riggs Stephenson, Madlock and such. But who would you say is the best hitter overall. The one who had the entire package...like Ted Williams?
