Many things Chip did drove me crazy, and many have been touched upon already in this thread. Two things that haven't been mentioned drove me nuts too...

He would get really excited about bunts and always yell, "and its a beauty!" For instance...

"So and so squares around to bunt and its a beauty!" But, they often weren't that great, and sometimes he'd yell that and the pitcher would field it and force the guy at second.

He also would say "could" when he should have been saying "would" too. For instance...

Say the Cubs were down one in the bottom of the ninth with one runner on base. He'd say...

"A home run here by Sosa could win it for the Cubs." No, a home run in that situation would definitely win it for the Cubs. Or maybe it was a 3-2 count with the bases loaded and he'd say, "A ball here could force in a run." In that situation a ball would force in a run, not could.

He always seemed like a guy who didn't know much about the game so he tried to make up for it by being really enthusiastic.

He also reminds me of Phil from the show Modern Family.

When Chirp quit out of solidarity with Steve Stone back in 2004 (seems like forever ago), did you ever think that, 5 years later, he would be the third most visible baseball broadcaster after Buck and John Miller? He's done pretty well for himself, to the detriment of all of our ears.

He just happened to have multiple years left on his contract when Time-Warner decided to discontinue the Braves telecasts on TBS in favor of the current Sunday/playoffs package. Voila - "we have our A-list announcer!"

This place is magic. I just was in a suite talking baseball and drinking Fresca with Yogi Berra, Darryl Strawberry and Cory Lidle.

Correction: It was Mike Stanton. Cory Lidle is dead.

Lest we forget that Chip sounded great..when he was matched with Joe Carter.

Oh right, anyone would sound good next to Joe Carter.

Kerry Woods?

Hey gang, apparently Turner Broadcasting didn't appreciate it when I gave out the switchboard number with the iPhone magic word contest.

Need to clear something up. Of course I remember the Dodgers and Phightins met last year. I can still see that big homer Incaviglia hit.

Doing some research: Charlie Manuel managed the Phillies and the Mets this year? Isn't that conflict of interest?

Wait. There's more on the back of this sheet. JERRY Manuel. That didn't seem right.

what was he talking about on tonight's call of rollins' walkoff hit? here's the throw to the plate? the only throw to the plate was the one from the wall in right-center field, which is like 400 feet from home plate. there was no throw to the plate, there was an off-line throw to the cutoff man.

"HERE'S THE THROW TO THE PLATE! ...NOT IN TIME!"

I'm forever pissed that he's talking about freaking shoes when THIS occurred:

Without even looking, you're talking about Glenallen Hill's rooftop shot. Aren't they talking about his blue shoes or something. Ball lands on the rooftop and Chip doesn't even realized it until moments later. Then he throws in another mention of the shoes, something like " he keeps hitting the ball there, he can where whatever shoes he wants".

Too bad he couldn't keep hitting the ball there.

Chip is obnoxious and bad, but I will still take he and any other color cohort with him 10 times over a Buck and McCarver broadcast. It has gotten to the point where I have to watch Fox baseball games with the sound off.
