Ouch...breakdown of our last 22 games: 6 at home, 16 on the road

Is it going to make a difference?

It might...we have a better record right now than we did in 2007, we just have a dominant team in the division. If we are 74-68 in September and the Cardinals can't resign Holliday/DeRosa and Carp gets his expected injury than yes it will matter.

I guess they do this so far in advance to give the "wait til next year fans" something to think about.

Odd.

They face all three NL California teams on different trips.

They face the Mets, Phillies and Nationals on three different trips as well. They play in Wrigley, Philly (for two) and Texas without an off day. They go on a quick trip to Seattle in between playing in Wrigley and the south side.

They only go to Pittsburgh twice, both in May, and just like this year none of them are weekend games.

Separating the west coast teams may help the Cubs break up losing some games, they do not seem to every play well in SD, LA is hit or miss, and SF might be tough either way with that pitching staff. A lot of the analysis may change as the player do in the offseason... But I like the West coast trips being broken up.

A quick scan of the schedule shows a drop in divisional games next year (~15 per opponent) and an increase in games against the other divisions. They are doing this by adding a lot of 4-game series out of the division and making almost all division series 3-gamers.

I wish interleague would go away. 18 games. That's over 10% of the schedule. Not to mention the Cardinals get the Royals six time each season.

EDIT: Cardinals only get to play the Royals three times next year and they're in KC, but they have the Blue Jays too ? :-s Also, the Angels go to STL, which they did just two years ago.

They play 18 against Houston and 16 against Cincy with 15 against the rest. I'm not sure what they normally do but I'm pretty sure they play less per team than other divisions who face each other 19 times. Actually they had similiar 18/15 game breakdowns against division opponents this year (pit and cincy were both just 15 games)

The Cubs only play the Rockies 5 times but play LA and AZ 7 times each. They host Philly 4 games and go there for 2, but have 8 against SF and another team I believe.

Are we ever gonna play in Kansas City again?

I know. That was one of the first things I looked for. I was hoping for 12+ games in MO next year (selfish reasons), but it's only 6.

If I am correct, the Cubs have not played the Royals since 2001 and not in KC since 2000. What gives?

It's like Bud knows I moved here. In all honesty I'm not sure anyone will ever figure out the schedules. One of the main reasons for interleague was for dream matchups. We are what, 11 years in and still haven't played in Boston. The Cubs at Fenway is probably the biggest dream matchup there is.

Lets see...

05 - AL East

06 - AL Central

07 - AL West

08 - AL East

09 - AL Central

10 - AL West

11 - AL East

The Cubs played the O's, Rays and Jays from the East in 05 right? And the Red Sox came to Wrigley in 05 I THINK.

So I think the Yankees come to Wrigley and the Cubs will go to Boston. But who knows.

I would think that there would be more emphasis on teams from the same geographical area in interleague play aside from the closest team (like the Minnesota Twins, Cleveland Indians, and Detroit Tigers). I guess this gives more variety, and gives the Cubs more chances to play the Yankees and the Red Sox. :-))

Go [expletive] yourself, Bud.

You can send the Cubs to Oakland any time now.

2002: Cubs play at Seattle and host Texas

2004: Cubs play at Anaheim and host Oakland

2007: Cubs play at Texas and host Seattle

Seeing as they swapped the home road games from 02 and 07, you would think they would do the same from 2004 to 2010. But do they? Of course not.

First of all, no team plays 4 different teams from a given division during interleague (unless it's the ALC and we're including the White Sox). Second of all, in 2005 we went to Yankee Stadium while hosting Boston and Toronto.
