lol @ outshooting them 47-14

it really sucks that we lost, but it's really good to see them dominate the hell out of these [expletive] once again.

as of right now i feel really really good aobut the hawks chances against the sharks if they meet in the playoffs (it might be asking too much of the sharks to not choke in the first 2 rounds though)

Q coached playoff teams have pretty much the same track record as San Jose, so be careful what you say.

Blackhawks beat expectations and made it to conference finals last year, so I'm not sure that matters much.

how do you lose while outshooting them like that? that kind of crap just doesn't happen to other teams.

They just got lucky. It was just an unlikely win.

We'll rack up a heck of a lot of points outshooting teams like that, so an offhand weird loss or two shouldn't worry us all that much.

I see Sharpie, Toews and Kane score in what I would assume is a workmanlike game tonight? Niemi is quickly becoming one of my favorite players.

What a great game by Niemi. He was exceptional in fighting through screens and finding the puck during scrums. He carried the team until the offense finally found a way to break through.

And the defense -- I guess I don't realize how good they are because I marvel at the offensive zone dominance. But that starts with the defensive side. Detroit gave their absolute best shot in the first 30 minutes of that game and couldn't get anything done. After that we just wore them down and the difference in speed and talent won out again.

Now an interesting home-and-home with Nashville this weekend. I, and I know I'm not alone, think the Preds are playing way over their heads. We'll see where they stack up on Saturday.

Detroit came out flying and hitting a lot in the first, but they just couldn't get anything past Niemi. And then the offense finally reminded Jimmy Howard that he's no Dominator.

Need to show those guys who's boss.

Yep, I would be 100% confident in trading Huet in the offseason and going with Niemi as our #1 next year. He's as solid as it gets.

Good luck with trading Huet. I do think Niemi deserves a chance to be the #1 guy. I think the only chance the Hawks have of trading Huet is if he proves he can be a top playoff performer though. Kind of a tough catch-22 situation.

pretty sure it's much more about the players than the coach.

and the blackhawks did pretty damn well in the playoffs last season

If Huet continues to play well I think you might see a couple of teams interested in Huet in the offseason.

Niemi is a RFA this offseason meaning if a team out there needs a goaltender has capspace and is interested in Niemi they can throw a boatload at him and the Hawks won't match. So don't go trading Huet yet.

The Preds this weekend should be fun. Don't discount the Preds. They couldn't score a lick to begin the season but have come on real strong as of late which is why their goal differential isn't great yet. Also they seem to have been able to give the Hawks fits at times in the past including this season. That said the Hawks are the better team. I'll be happy with 3 out of 4 points and live with a split but not be thrilled.

The Preds have come-on in a huge way the last 4 weeks. They scare me a bit, though in a 7 game series I think the Hawks are better. Wouldn't shock me if the Hawks played em' in the Conference Finals.

I still don't think there's any chance that Niemi will end up making more than Huet will next year. Huet's been very solid since the start of the season, so he's going to have some value. And if we're going to have to move a guy in the offseason, I think Huet might be the first guy I take a look at especially given the production that Niemi has given us this year.

Best case for Niemi, he keeps up this level of play and gets an offer sheet in the order of $9M/3 years. Something like that. Unless something crazy happens and he plays most of the games down the stretch and the playoffs, there is no way he gets an offer from anyone approaching what Huet is making.

But I agree that if the status quo remains, some team probably will offer Niemi more than we can pay him. So yes, that would necessitate a quick move of Huet in the offseason.
