so does the annual MSU death-spiral start early this year?

MSU has finished much stronger since Dantonio took over. Though 2 weeks in a row they lost JL Smith style. The ending today really sucked

I threw away about three hours I'll never get back by watching Ball State lose to Army. 0-3. Stan Parrish has a streak of 30-something games in a row as head coach without a win (one tie in the streak) between Kansas State and Ball State, including winless seasons his last two years at K-State as well as the start of his tenure at BSU.

31 games. Hasn't won since 1986!

That means he is due.

Great effort by Tennessee today. I expected the defense to slow down Florida for about three quarters and the offense to do very little, but I didn't expect the mini-comeback late by the offense.

Considering I expected a 2-3 touchdown loss minimum, I'm not that disappointed in a 23-13 loss. I really think Eric Berry is the best defensive player (and maybe the best player period) in college football. He was absolutely all over the field today.

Heh, Stanford and Washington are in first place in the Pac-10 and USC is in last.

Cal cracking under the pressure of being a top 10 team against an inferior opponent? SHOCKING.

almost as predictable as usc laying a complete egg against a vastly inferior conference opponent.

What a catch by the Tech receiver just there. They are moving the ball with ease against Texas on this first drive. Potts is impressive.

These teams might score 100 though.

It's a shoot out in Arkansas. 21-10 at the end of the 1st quarter.

What channel? I have Mallett and Smith on my fantasy team.

ETA: Never mind, found it on the WWL.

Ryan Mallet is really good apparently.

Bastard. He apparently learned how to throw accurately during his year off after transferring from Michigan. He would just rifle it as hard as he could every pass when he played for UM.

He's had pretty stellar accuracy so far tonight.

How to kill momentum:

a) back to back 3 and outs

b) get your starting middle linebacker ejected from the game

c) give up an 80 yard run right at where said linebacker would normally be

Leach is rightfully upset that the officials blew the last play of the first half dead when Potts didn't come close to taking a knee. Still, isn't it common for coaches to let officials in on potential trick plays like that prior to the game? It seems like Leach could've communicated better with the officials at some point to avoid that.

A few years ago Peyton Manning (still with the Colts) ran a fake spike play right before the half. Every defensive player thought he spiked it, so they all stopped. The Colts ended up scoring on the play (can't remember if he threw it or ran it), but it was called back because the refs thought he spiked it so they blew the play dead.

I say all that only to point out that I don't know whether trick plays are always communicated to the refs or not, but it's happened before that trick plays will confuse even the refs.

That was a strange trick play to try there. To quote the announcer just before the play started "there's no way they take a knee here after all of this"

I agree with the Bo Pelini hate from earlier in this thread.

I've only seen about 4 games he's head coached and I've already seen him lose his cool more times than the rest of the coaches I've seen combined. When his team doesn't perform well he takes it with the grace of a 5 year old.
