9.1 IP, 4 H, 6 BB, 2 ER, 14 K, 7/7 sv.

 

If you take out that non-save 9th inning he pitched against the Nats at Wrigley:

8.1 IP, 3 H, 3 BB, 0 ER, 12 K

That's my opinion. Marmol will be better next year, we have a lot of internal options for bullpen help. Stevens, Gaub, Cashner (mid season), Guzman, Marshall, Grabow, Samaradzija. We can add a cheap FA or two and there are always guys available during the season through trades, waivers, rule V, etc. Don't spend money on an area where we can at least be league average, when we have areas that are in need of much more important upgrades when we will presumably have a limited budget this offseason.

Ill root for anyone who can help us win, blind, crippled, or crazy, but if Marmol can prove that he can do the job over the next month, theres really no reason to overpay for Valvere.

I was forced to sit next to valverde the entire series the last time the stro's were in town. It sucked. Not so much because he was a prick, rather because he actually seemed like a pretty cool guy. I'm not supposed to not dislike him.
