What rumor is this?

a made up one

I'm not sure if this is what the OP was referring to, but I heard Steve Stone vaguely mention this on The Score a few weeks ago. It wasn't so much a rumor as a suggestion.

It's losing credibility by the minute!

I'm more interested in Duncan than LaRussa. If Duncan is really willing to cut the apron strings and go elsewhere regardless of what LaRussa does then I could care less whether LaRussa stays or goes.

Yeah, in the twilight of his career, after 27 years of working with one dude, at the age of 63, dude is ready to strike out on his own. Right.

That's like if Leo Mazzone would have left the Braves. Not gonna happen.

That is correct! By the latest indication Duncan feels disrespected by the FO. and the power they have been bleeding away from the Manager (and him)

I don't see him returning 'tho LaRussa will try to move heaven and earth to change his mind. In my mind he will be looking for a managers job! And he will get one. But where? I see Houston, Chi and Cincy as possibles. Or the Mets???

Now wouldn't that raise the stakes even more in the cubs/cards rivalry if Duncan were to become manager of the Cubs!

Joe Strauss of the STL PD has tiwtted that the possiblity of Larussa being manager of the Cards with a pitching coach other than Dave next year is significant.

Yes, and that fortifies the concept of both going somewhere. DD has turned down manager jobs for years and it is possible that he would stay a pitching coach if he can stay with Tony.

I see Hendry making a provacative offer if the new owners are on board.

Sorry to bring up a dead thread, but I wanted to give my view point.

I'm a Cardinal fan, but I come in peace.

From what I've seen, I doubt Tony leaves after this year. He seems content, the Front Office finally listened to him, he seems to like his players and they listen to him. And he has said that he is willing to work without Dave. If Dave leaves, I see Marty Mason possibly being promoted.

Duncan is another story. I doubt Dave Duncan stays here. For one, he seems steamed about the Chris situation first of all. Secondly, Dave seems to feel that he has no say in what the front office does or how they draft or any of that. For those reasons, I could certainly see Dave leaving. I kind of expect him to.

Will Dave go to the Cubs? I doubt he'd want to oppose Tony. If anything, I could see Dave going to the west somewhere. He's from Arizona. And maybe he could go somewhere that would give him more say in who they draft and sign.

I don't see Tony ever going to the Cubs. I think he understands the hatred between the teams. Even though the fans here have treated Tony badly in the past, I don't think he'd want to alienate them like that. When Edmonds signed with you guys, Tony encouraged fans to boo him when he came back, because he's a Cub. I just don't see Tony going to the Cubs. The rivalry is just too harsh for that.

If Tony and/or Dave were to go to another team in the Central, I could see them going to Cincinnati. Having Walt Jocketty there certainly would be a draw to them. But Rolen is there, and next year too I think. So if Tony did leave here after this year, I doubt he would go to Cincinnati while Rolen was still there.

Bottom line, it sounds like Tony is happy here and will probably stay at least one more year. But I wouldn't be surprised to see Dave leave. But I don't think he'd want to play for a rival against Tony.

I'd hate to lose either of them, but I think Dave is gonna speed out of here as soon as his contract is up (after this year). It sounds like Tony will stay. Who wouldn't want to manage Albert Pujols?

I don't know if I could get over LaRussa being on the Cubs. Only if he brings a crapload of pixie dust with him.

This. I don't think I'd be able to watch games with LaRussa as manager knowing he's going to overthink and overplay late inning pitching/hitting matchup situations, more than one runner on base situations, guy on third with less than 2 out situations, etc.

Although I hate it when managers overmanage a game, if it leads to better in-game decision making as Larussa is a better manager than Piniella, I'd accept it. Of course, bringing in Duncan would be icing on the cake.

I see you only got half the story there. Jake Peavy, Brian Roberts and Jose Reyes were singing the chorus as well. 2010 HERE WE COME!!!!

Maybe if we offer Duncans 2 no talent kids jobs as base or bench coaches we could get Dave and Tony on board.

Chris isn't great but Shelley lead AAA in homers this year - he's just with the wrong ballclub

Yeah, no way that will happen. That would be like Favre playing QB for the.... Oh wait.
