Josh Vitters 18/40, 3 2B, 1 3B, 2 BB, 7 K, 0/2 SB, 3 E - .360/.385/.460/.845

Isn't 18/40 a .450 batting avg...Maybe its been to long since my last math class...Or there is a typo in the number of at bats

Yeah, that's a typo. It's 18/50. The .360 is accurate.

Let me fix that.

castro is the only cub in the lineup for mesa today. so far he's 2-3: line drive single to cf on first pitch, line drive single to lf on 0-1 pitch, ground out to 3b on first pitch. he also has a stolen base.

Castro is unbelievable right now, I don't remember having this much excitement about the potential of a player in the past five years.

I'm in the process of doing a analysis of the comparisons of a 20 year old hanley ramirez and 19 year old starlin castro at the moment, hope to have it up soon.

other ABs by castro:

fly out to deep cf on 1-0 count... gameday put the dot at the wall in the deepest part of the park.

strike out looking (outside corner) on 3-2 pitch.

grounded into force out to 1b on 2-1 pitch

overall 2-6, 1 k on the day. looks like he had a handful of chances at 2b and handled them with no trouble.

Here is my thinking and i am more bullish on him than just about anyone but, "what if he always hits? There is nothing to really suggest he will stop hitting and the fact that he is doing this when he is super young for his league makes it even more impressive. Also from all accounts the range at short is 60-70 (granted more say 60) with a solid consensus on a 70 arm. That is extremely valuable. I am also not worried about the power since everyone seems to project that he will gain about 30-40 pounds. He is also an efficent base stealer and doesnt strike out. No real red flags with this one. I for one am super excited. Wouldnt be surprised to see him sneak into Callis or Law's top 20's. I think Callis implied he would be extremely high the other day. Its also nice to pretty much have the consensus best SS prospect in the minors. Our system might be the most improved outside of maybe Washington in the past year.

Crazy game. The East (the team with the Cubs) took a 7-0 lead in the top of the 1st, then being shut out the rest of the game while the West came back to win 8-7. Castro hit twice in the first, the blooper Truffle mentioned (he then scored) and he made the last out in the 1st. He had another hit later in the game, finishing 2 for 3 with a run scored. Parker pitched a scoreless 7th, with a hit allowed, a walk, a strikeout, and a wild pitch. He left with the East still leading 7-6, with the West scoring 2 runs in the 8th to win.

I know it's not Cubs related, but I am just now watching the Rising Stars game on DVR and  @ Tanner Scheppers

oh wow I just got even more excited about Castro after watching this BP session

I know it's BP, but watching how buttery smooth his swing looks makes me even more confident that we might have a LOT to look forward to with Starlin. He certainly looks like a hitter, albeit a very very young one physically.

He sure gets those wrists around quick, huh?

Castro had his worst day yesterday, hopefully he picks it back up next day. 0-5 in yesterdays game.

he did line out twice and put the ball in play all five ABs.

it's probably been a long year for him. last year he only played short-season rookie ball; this year he's played a full season and now is in a fall league. wouldn't be surprised if he's pretty tired by now.
