I'm watching an SEC team disgrace themselves, so I'm not able to watch Mizz/Ill, so the question is:

is Mizzou really good or is Illinois just really bad?

Little bit of both.

Illinois has been terrible on both sides of the ball today, so it's hard to tell either way.

Probably the latter.

Unreal how a team with this much talent on offense doesn't have a TD through three quarters.

We're without our #1 WR and #1 RB so that's not helping. Our defense is this bad, the offense isn't. Mizzou is probably better than I expected too.

This might be the beginning of the end of the Ron Zook era in Champaign.

i don't know about that, but this is the part where people start grumbling about how zook's teams inexplicably lay huge eggs like this one, and wonder why the performance on the field isn't matching the quality of recruits he's bringing in.

If they have another season where they're right around .500, I'm not sure if he lives another year.

Like you said, the talent on this team doesn't match what's going on right now.

Really [expletive] weak call on that Georgia DB. Just terrible.

Not sure it was terrible. It was the wrong though. 4 different refs called it, so its not like it was a huge miss by someone. We have the benefit of slow motion replay, in real time it did look like a head shot.

I agree. Sure protect the players but the reality is its a contact sport where injuries happen. Either keep it a contact sport or change it to flag football. Stop trying to be in the middle. The new NFL rule on diving at the quarterbacks is one of the worst rules in history. Its [expletive] football. The player should be allowed to tackle a QB even if he is on the ground. A QB is a football player. He's not made of glass. If he gets hurt from being tackled then he gets hurt from being tackled. That's what happens in a contact sport. I'm all for stopping helmet to helmet contact of the horse collar but the NCAA and the NFL have gone WAYYYYY overboard on the protecting players rules. [end rant]

It was god awful. Not sure what replay you were looking at. It wasn't a headshot. It was a perfecty clean shoulder lead tackle with the ball still in play.

Edit: I see what you're saying about how it looked in real time. When 4 flags fly in like that you know they're itchy about safeties lighting up WRs. But it was clean and they screwed up a pretty pivotal play.

They should err on the side of caution with those calls. Unless you know for sure it was helmet to helmet keep the flag in your pants. I would rather they miss a couple penalties than have a DB punished for making a great play.

erring on the side of caution would be throwing a flag anytime it's a close call.

Really, erring on the side of caution would be making that call everytime. It is also not a great play, its like calling someone a great hitter for hitting a hanging curve out of the park. WRers going up for a ball over the middle is the easiest hit in FB.

I have been critical of the SEC in the past for calling themselves the best conference but their power teams schedule weak non-con. I have to give them some props for picking up the scheduling some.

Damn, SIU nearly beat their 3rd I-A team in four years but just came up short against Marshall. Third quarter doomed us as we were outscored 21-7.

Should be a good battle with UNI for the conference title, yet again, this year.
