For some reason, whenever I think of Jim Hendry, I think of this guy:

He reminded me of Lenny in The Butterfly Effect.

Good for you, Jim. So what are you going to do about it to make up for the fact that it will now be an intolerable 101 years without a championship? And what will yo do to prevent fans from having to sit through yet another rebuilding program before enjoying a title?

Hopefully resign, but I won't hold my breath.

Unfortunately, there'd be a good chance that whoever replaced him could actually be even worse.

Sigh. If Hendry were as good of a GM as JR is an announcer, we'd be 5 up on the Cards right now.

I think you're right. A new GM might have everybody longing for the "Jim Hendry days". We're all frustrated, but I'm not sure how many GMs (that are available) would do better. All the talk about how great some of these small-market GMs (i.e. Beane) are might be shot down with a bigger budget and higher expectations.

Hendry did make a mess, but theres blood on Lous hands as well. Wasnt he the one who wanted to be more left handed? Hows that working out?

The GM makes the roster moves. A manager can 'want' anything, but it's the GM's job to put the right personnel on the field. I know you already know this, just sending a reminder.

Still the manager has a lot of input though. Im sure that any major moves are discussed in depth before they go through with them. I doubt Hendry just called Lou and said oh, by the way, I traded DeRosa for some minor leaguers, but dont worry, Im close to a deal for Aaron Miles whose essentially the same guy only hes a switch hitter.

Alfonso Soriano, Carlos Zambrano, and Milton Bradley.

Three reasons the Cubs are not running with the NL Central.

Take last night, for instance. The Dodgers walk a man to load the bases TO FACE A GUY THAT IS GETTING PAID $18 MILLION A SEASON. Soriano then struck out.

That about sums it up.

Blame Jim Hendry if you like, but any time you sign a player to that kind of money you gamble in many ways. I don't think anyone thought they would be gambling with offensive futility when Soriano was signed.

If winning is the name of the game, BENCH SORIANO and play Fox or Hoffpauir (call him up). You will get effort from those guys, and more ability than Soriano is putting out. Cut your losses, so to speak.

Carlos Zambrano gets his big payday and then stops working. His season is indicative to his self-admitted laziness.

Those two guys could use a heart transplant at this point. We knew what to expect with Bradley. At least he seems to care.

Lou just couldn't get over the fact the Dodgers didn't throw one LHP at the Cubs last season, so he wanted to get more left-handed. Well, what's the point in getting more left-handed if it makes you worse? Isn't the purpose to put the best team out on the field, not the best left-handed team?

Really? You don't think anybody thought there was a significant chance that Soriano would be completely unproductive over large stretches of his contract? I, for one, assumed it. I didn't think it would necessarily take place this year, but the guys is 33, hardly a shocking time to have a dump of a season, especially when your entire game is based upon your physical abilities and you have a piss-poor approach at the plate.

And I know I'm not the only one.

Quick question. At this point in the Cubs sale, who is the person who would actually be responsible for firing Hendry?

At this exact moment, probably Crane Kenney, but he may not have the authority or any good reason to do it. Zell probably holds ultimate authority but he doesn't care what the Cubs do right now.

Let's not forget to add fat Soto and Mike Fontenot to the list as well. Because the disparity between 2008 Dero to 2009 Font and 2008 Soto to 2009 Soto is HUGE.

Soto has definitely had a bad year, no doubt. But wasn't he injured twice? Plus the whole "pot test" distraction. He's the least of my worries moving forward. I think he'll be better next season.

Fontenot was a disappointment, but I think a lot of people thought that might happen (though they certainly hoped it wouldn't.)

I remember people suggesting he could have a better year than DeRo. Haha.

I'm not going to blame Fontenot for not being DeRosa. I also think part of the problem was him having to play at 3rd for a while.

I would be worried. He came to camp out of shape and recently, they showed a closeup of him on tv and he looks even bigger now than he did the beginning of the season.

After being on the DL for over a month? Yeah...I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. He's clearly not a naturally svelt fellow. If he has a healthy offseason, I think we'll see him report at a more acceptable weight in ST.

Bradley is making the 7th most on the team this year and has an OBP floating around .400.

His power outage sucks, and he doesn't exactly look pretty out in the field... but if you're making a list of problems on this team, he's nowhere near the top.

I'd say he's near the top. Soriano clearly tops it. But your biggest offseason acquisition disappointing in a big way is a significant problem. The fact that others make more than him is pretty meaningless. Most of those guys have been pretty damn good.

Bradley is really picking up steam, and hopefully next year he'll be adapted to the team. The only guy who would be worth dumping would be Soriano. Thats 90 million over the next 5 years, and for that kind of money he should one of the top players in the game. Id be all for doing what the Blue Jays did with Rios and just send him through waivers and see if someone takes the bait. That money could go a long way.

Okay.. if the money is meaningless, the fact that he was the biggest offseason acquisition should be as well. So let's just look at production.

Bradley is producing like a league average RF despite the power outage. 14th in MLB and 6th in NL in EqA amongst RFs. I bet you can name quite a few players on our team that aren't playing at a league average clip.

Too little too late. He starts hitting once we're past the point where it could have helped. That's still disappointing.
