I would love to see the Cardinals have an epic choke job and the Cubs come back and win the division, but unless Tanya Harding stops doing the "Smoking Guns" show and is willing to bring her billy club and take out Pujols and Holliday, I don't see how the Cubs can wi the division. All year we've been waiting for the switch to come on, and it hasn't, and to think the Cubs have a 2007 Rockies run in them is really laughable.

The Cubs are 4 games out in the loss column and still have 3 games left with the Cardinals.

I just...I dont...ugh. It doesn't matter. Math doesn't matter. They're a better team. We could have six games with them left and I'd feel the same way.

That's not exactly a good thing. At best we could hope to pick up one game during that series. A sweep is unlikely. Then you're 3 games out in the loss column with no games against STL.

No, the best we can hope for is that we sweep them and have like 40 or 50 games or however many it is to make up 1 game. That series isn't tomorrow, but the concept is the same.

Needing to hope for a sweep is not a good thing. If they were 4 back with 6 games against STL there would be reason to be optimistic.

Also, games back in the loss colum is a nice measure when you are talking about a good team that is likely to win a lot of games, but when the team barely wins half their games, the loss column advantage is less meaningful.

This plan to win the NL Central is off to a roaring start.

Cards also lost, so it's not really a big deal yet

Regardless, please don't don that think where you bump this after every series we lose

When, exactly, does it start to become a big deal? It's mid-August, and the Cubs are playing like crap.

It's not a big deal according to his scenario. Of course they are playing like crap but that's not the point of the hypothetical scenario that was laid out.

I hope it does get bumped and edited because I think this will be interesting to follow.

Well I'm assuming it's going to go horribly wrong and I'm going to get blasted like the Cubs sucking is all my fault.

If it plays out exactly the way I posted, feel free to bump away! :)

The Cardinals are just down out right hot right now I don't know how we could catch them. They aren't Zoolander" hot but "Hansel" hot!

Well I took that into account... I don't have the Cubs getting any closer than 5 games back until early September. We're going to have to do better than a split or the Cards gotta do worse than 3 of 4 coming up here to keep pace with my predictions though.

Who cares about what the Cards do? The Cubs are just not good enough to win the division and make up this deficit, even against a mediocre team. They had that post all-star break run where they beat bad teams for a while and that fluke winning streak earlier in the season. That's it. The rest of the season has been abysmal.

Blame it on injuries, age, whatever. They are just not that good. They haven't showed much at all this season. When they need a win, or need a hit, or need a lousy save, they just can't do it.

I'm fine with it now. Disappointment now is better than disappointment in October, which would be bound to happen with this team anyways.

I think best case scenario is the Cards win the division, Cubs take the wildcard, and the Dodgers keep the best record in the NL. The Cubs can't beat the Phillies in any series, and the best case scenario is Cubs get LA (who despite last year I think they can beat) and I think the Cards could beat Philly. Cards take the division, because I have more faith in the Cubs beating STL than I do Philly or SF or really even Colorado in the NLCS.

Oh and if Tonya Harding is orchastrating another kneecapper, I'd rather she go after Wainwright and Carpenter than Pujols and Holliday.

Oh and there's no way the Nats get swept by both the Cubs and Cards next week. They'll find a way to win one of those games. You have to play the due factor in figuring out these series' too because the Nationals aren't just going to roll over and die for every team.

And yeah, the Mets have sort of sucked this year but when's the last time the Cubs have swept them? Don't we have to face Johan in that series too? Good luck.
