It's funny to see a pitcher who has given up 7 hits in 3 innings act so in control of a bases loaded 1 out situation. In a situation where you absolutely don't want to get behind in the count too much, he was able to confidently throw 5 straight balls in that AB to Baker, and in the Soriano AB he was able to climb the ladder without a worry. Guys when your team has loaded the bases, you are in control not the pitcher. This is why we've struggled to score runs this season.

I wonder if "being more selective" went out the window as an orgainzational philosophy right around the time "get more left-handed" came into fashion.

I doubt it as they went after very selective hitter in Milton Bradley this offseason's primary target.

For a team that has dealt with a horrible lack of situational hitting this year, I'm surprised at how conservative our 3rd base coach is. I'm not saying right there wasn't a good hold, but there have been quite a few times this year I've wondered why the runner was held only to see no runs score later in the inning.

Where is Wavin Wendell when you need him?

No not Wavin Wendell, but when I can't think of one time we've gotten thrown out at the plate on an agressive send this year, either we have a infallible 3rd base coach, or one that is completely afraid of an agressive send.

Don't get me wrong, the topic is probably a trivial one at best, as I can't see too many runs gained because of it, but it is interesting to discuss.

CUBS are on a pace for: Compared to:
                                  2008 2007 2006 2005

.600 walks 638 500 395 419

Go CUBS !!!

Oh. My. God.

This is just basic Baseball 101 stuff here. It's not like these are difficult defensive plays that the Cubs aren't coming up with. This is stuff you work on from the first day of spring training!

It's like Dustyball is back. Dusty's teams were some of the worst fundamental Cubs teams I had ever seen. This team the past few games is starting to approach that.

If I'm Lou, I have mandatory fielding practice for every single member of the team until this bullcrap stops.

This team has its head so far up its own ass right now its pathetic. I feel like Im watching a [expletive] little league team, Jesus Christ.
