For a team that has dealt with a horrible lack of situational hitting this year, I'm surprised at how conservative our 3rd base coach is. I'm not saying right there wasn't a good hold, but there have been quite a few times this year I've wondered why the runner was held only to see no runs score later in the inning.

It's a hell of a lot better than Wavin' Wendell.

Well there's one.

Why do I have a bad feeling that's all we're going to get here?

Because this team is depressingly predictable.

To continue that thought as we don't score again after an interesting hold at 3B, can anyone remember many times where we've seen a Cubs runner gunned out at home? I'm starting to convince myself that Quade is petrified at being burned on a send.

*sigh*

My kingdom for a team that is actually selective at the plate. You know, like last year's team.

Whatever happened to being selective, Lou? Or should I say DUSTY IN A LOU COSTUME???

Didn't see it posted yet (and I apologize for the pic size):

It's funny to see a pitcher who has given up 7 hits in 3 innings act so in control of a bases loaded 1 out situation. In a situation where you absolutely don't want to get behind in the count too much, he was able to confidently throw 5 straight balls in that AB to Baker, and in the Soriano AB he was able to climb the ladder without a worry. Guys when your team has loaded the bases, you are in control not the pitcher. This is why we've struggled to score runs this season.

Well it's tied up 3-3...oh wait, Fox's double bounced over the wall, and the umps made a miserably bad call on a play at 2B.

I wonder if "being more selective" went out the window as an orgainzational philosophy right around the time "get more left-handed" came into fashion.

Where is Wavin Wendell when you need him?

there are situations where the Cubs look disciplined, just as there are individual players who know what they are doing. But its clear that certain people on this team have no grasp of working the count. Jake Fox is someone who might be on this list soon.
