Well, at least you get the chance to see Cliff Lee throw a one-hit shutout (Aaron Miles bloop single) in a 20-0 game. Oh, and Ryan Howard hits two grand slams.

Would be wiser if Marshall starts against a team like the Phillies. But I'd rather Samardzija start than, say, Mitch Atkins or Andrew Cashner.

 

I think Philly as a team has done much better vs LHP. They are better off hoping or the best from Samardzija and having Marshall and Grabow each take a turn through Utley-Howard-Ibanez. Doesn't really matter though, Cliff Lee starts that one for Philly.

I meant Philly has done much better in game outcomes vs LHP, . They are 23-14 vs left handed starters and 38-33 vs righties. Either way, I like the move to give Samardzija a start.

 

Might as well give Shark a shot. With Cashner, Carpenter, and Jackson getting closer, Wells looking like a keeper, and Gorz in the system, Samardzija isn't going to get much of an opportunity to start for this team. Let's see what he does with it.

Yeah, I'm fine with starting Shark. It's either him or Atkins realistically (Marshall isn't stretched out enough) so he's far and away the best option.

Nope. Samardzija is their best chance of not having to waste the whole pen that day. He's the only one who can get you through 5 IP right now, unless you call up an inferior pitcher like Atkins.

 

I agree. Though is there harm in calling up Atkins in case it's 10-0 in the 2nd and we want to let him throw 100 pitches rather than burn through the pen? I know it's not likely to happen, but there's a decent chance that Shark gets ripped and we end up using every pitcher in the bullpen.

Wow....so I'm going to watch Lilly pitch for the Chiefs on the same night that Shark pitches for the Cubs. I just can't imagine rehab Lilly being worse than BP Samardzija.

I haven't heard anything from Lou, but I figure the reason is that Shark is stretched out enough to go 4-5 innings, potentially. Marshall is stretched out enough to go maybe two innings.

When you sign an incredibly raw college player to a major league contract thinking he'll be ready to pitch after playing another season of football (losing an offseason of development) and then rushing him through the system...well, you pretty much know what you're going to get.

 

I was fine with drafting him, but holy hell was his contract and what the Cubs did with him following that stupid.
