Two things come to mind when I think of Gregg....

1) Is this REALLY the guy you want on the bump in Game 7 of the World Series with the go-ahead run on 2nd base?

2) Now I see why the Marlin fans were glad to get rid of him.

Billy Wagner (38) - $8MM club option with a $1MM buyout

What a demoralizing loss..Gregg has such the most undeceptive, piece of garbage throw and delivery in baseball. You seriously know whats coming before he throws it..Hes TRASH..Id face him one on one anyday rather than Wakefield if my life on counted getting a hit off any pitcher..FU Gregg with your goggles you [expletive] looking piece of trash

If he's the easiest pitcher to hit, then why don't his stats reflect that at all?

For the right price, I wouldn't mind Mike Gonzalez or, forgive me, Valverde.

After talking some time to think about it, are we really mad at Kevin Gregg or is this just frustration over the lack of offense the Cubs showed on Sunday? Personally I think most here are more mad at the offense then Gregg.

I'd say it's more the frustration of Gregg blowing two consecutive games, though the Cubs did come back to win on Saturday. If these two appearances were sandwiched around something like 10 straight scoreless outings (just throwing a number out there), I don't think it would be that big of a deal.

I'm sure a bit of it is the lack of offense on Sunday, but I think a majority of it is Gregg laying an egg on two straight days.

If we get to Game 7 of the World Series, I'm guessing Kevin Gregg will at some point earn our trust in the interim. Unfortunately right now he's just driving me nuts.

Nolasco has been really good lately. In his previous 10 starts he had an ERA of 2.71 and a WHIP of just barely over 1. And those numbers are pumped up by the one 7 ER start he had in there. In the other 9 starts, he had allowed 2 ER or fewer.

Gonzalez is pretty overrated. Soriano is much better.

Valverdes the only one Id really be interested in, maybe Soriano. Franklins tempting to piss off Cardinal fans, but I dont think LaRussa allows players to take the pixie dust with them.

I wonder how much of a conincidence it is that his former team had this kind of success against him? If he does better his next few times out, I can overlook these two games.

Probably every pitcher on this list will cost too much, but if possible I'd be thrilled to pick up Soriano. Wagner might come cheaply since he's been hurt all year.

They better not even think about signing a free agent "closer". It's just a made up position that gets way over compensated on the free agent market. Every year guys come out of relative obscurity to prove themselves as closer, and then lose all their value once they start getting paid. Just keep bringing in live arms from the system and acquire the occasional cheap vet if you must.

Lou should use Gregg only where he is effective - 2-out save situations in the ninth. I'd rather see Lou himself in any other kind of situation where the game is on the line than this schmuck.

This may sound like a cruel question, but I am curious. Do you think guys like Gregg even care when they do badly?

There have been other discussions here about other players, especially Soriano, where some posts have suggested those rich guys don't care.

I agree with this. Definitely don't want some big name closer. I just wish there was someone in our system better than Gregg. His 1.8 HR/9 is just plain awful for someone who is supposed to be trusted in close games.

No, they just go home and roll around in a pool of money, hookers, and cadillacs.

Of course they care.

Nobody likes to lose. Most of these guys get to the bigs because they have great talent PLUS they love to compete. Very seldom would I argue that a player doesn't care. Some guys just show their passion more than others. Gregg isn't the type to spike his glove ala Lilly. But I can't imagine anyone just doesn't care when someone hits a 2,000 foot HR off them.

Yeah, they don't care. That's why they jump around all excited like little kids when they get a big win, and look like they wanna kill someone when they lose.

That's just stupid.
