I'm flabbergasted by the Jackson demotion. I really am ... unless it's off-field stuff, but the reports on that didn't suggest anything to be concerned with. I mean, yes, it was one horrible month, but still ... it's one month, and he's righted the ship before. I keep waiting for a report of an injury, or a workload issue (was a bit concerned that the innings would catch up), but the former hasn't been mentioned, and the latter can't be an issue as he started tonight.

As O_O and Raisin know, I'm a bit of a Jackson fan. Perhaps too much. That said, this one surprised me, as it seemed like it surprised some of you guys.

Thanks been meaning to come around after Raisin fixed things (btw, thanks Raisin ... ) but got caught up with stuff in real life.

It's nice to see a section actually focusing on the Cubs minors. Not many places for that. Let's see, counting the years since I started trying to sign up here ... I think I was nearing a decade of trying, if not past it. Finally.

Could it be they felt there was something mechanically wrong with him and that he was suited to go down to Daytona to work on it? Maybe there is a specific coach there that they feel works best with him or something along those lines.

Yeah, great to see you posting. :)

Peoria's game was canceled. Looks like Flaherty's 15th HR is wiped off the books. :(

Ouch ... but at least his average is creeping up a bit. As you know, I was quite frustrated earlier this year when he couldn't hit.

Speaking of Peoria, Lake's sporting a decent enough average to carry some "if he puts it together" hope. At that level, I like to, well, see the ability to hit enough, and Lake has shown enough signs. That said, last year, I had some high hopes on Jovan Rosa. I sort of wish he was struggling now in Peoria ... because then it could simply be a case where his swing got out of whack from his early injury. But to see him excel now is a bit frustrating, as the first thought that crosses my mind is one of recognition, or lack thereof. Maybe I'm off on it. He's still young enough to turn it around, but he's been my biggest disappointment this year.

Here's hoping, although Lewallyn seems fairly well thought of. I don't know if Pratt is a "specialist" in some regards, and Jackson doesn't have that much experience with Pratt to use as a backdrop.

Feels probably like a "go down and get a start or two in, get your confidence up" type move.

5-2 Smokies over BayBears. Marquez Smith hit a monster 2-run blast. Which Blake Lalli followed up with a solo jack (a "just barely" one). The BayBears bats once again were relatively silent. They were playing great baseball going into the break but since then they've been relatively mediocre.

Parker gave up another 5 ruins. Topped out at 100MPH, fastball sat between 97-99 in the first couple of innings. Got off to a hot start, just like his last outing, struck out two and got a grounder ot go 1-2-3 in the first, then he started walking and leaving pitches over the plate and the Smokies made him pay.

Marquez Smith BTW has some serious power, I was watching his BP a couple days ago and he can hit the ball a mile, but I think he's kinda like Cerrano, a dead fastball hitter. But when he connects, it goes and it doesn 't come down for a while. The one he hit tonight was ridiculous.

Coleman got a decent outing thanks to weak bats. Seriously, his stuff isn't anything special but I think he only gave up one run over 6 or 7 innings, something like that. He should've gotten torched, his stuff wasn't that impressive at all.

Brian Schlitter can throw some gas, too BTW. He topped out at 98 I think. His control is a little suspect and his secondary pitches could use some work, but his fastball has some serious zip to it

Anyways, that's what I got from Mobile. Again, I'll try and get the vids this weekend

If you don't mind me asking, what were your thoughts on Schlitter's fastball? Was there movement, or was it Farnsworth-ian?

I do like Coleman's attitude. I remember is ITI interview a few weeks back, and he knows what he has in the bag, and he plays to it rather than trying to do stuff he can't.

I wish Marquez Smith was more consistent. I still think he has a shot at the bigs as a utility player and bench power. It's funny how Tyler Colvin might be our third most intriguing Clemson alum right now.

Su-Min Jung got the start for Boise but he did struggle (4 ER in 1.1 IP). Jae-Hoon Ha is 2 for 3 with a double and his first pro home run.

And Jay Jackson officially demoted to Daytona. Arrrgh.

This makes no sense.

Unless it's for off the field stuff.

Peoria's game was canceled. Looks like Flaherty's 15th HR is wiped off the books. :(

Spent the past three days in Dayton watching the Chiefs and the Dragons. I'll post some more later as we're about to head home.

Flaherty's HR last night was nothing short of a bomb. I heard one player say it was the best ball he's hit all year long. And I would believe that. It was a line drive to left center. It cleared the 388 sign and must have landed at LEAST 440 (on a line). It got out quick!

Also, in the first inning Burke fielded a ball in center field after the runner had rounded third and threw a strike to the Mercedes at the plate to nail the runner. The ball got in very quickly! I wish I had gotten the HR and the Assist on video...

I would have liked to see Jeff Beliveau throw more last night. He hovered 88-90 in the first, but had some control issues. I think he would have settled in and been fine - especially after holding the Dragons scoreless in the first (despite them loading the bases), and having some run support.

I'll post more tonight.

Wait ... it was confirmed? I haven't seen anything posted ... do you have a link? I'd be very curious to read up on it.

No real movement, just a straight and narrow fastball, but he was hitting some high numbers with it

Sandbergcubs goes to a lot of D-Cubs games and might have some other connection with the team. He was the first to post about the Cashner promotion last month.

Thanks. I've linked to your blog and the Kyler Burke single/SB videos elsewhere in the forum. Thanks for all the updates.
