I broke my foot once at a Cubs game, now I feel like Reed and I have something in common.

How does one accomplish such a feat?

It was a game against the Padres last may. I was blacked out by first pitch after drinking a fifth of Seagrams 7 on the Metra with one of my buddies. I remember Soriano hitting a lead off HR and thats about it. After the game I thought one of the large steel Chicago Public Works trash cans was trying to fight me, so I pushed it over. It landed on my foot and broke it in three places.

Hilarious. I blame the fact that we didn't start an injury thread this season. Now the entire team is going to spend some time on the DL.

I actually did start one, but it was quickly deleted.

Can anyone on the roster play CF other than Fukudome? If so I wonder if they use this as the opportunity to bring back Miles without having to send Castro down. I don't see any way that Hendry releases Miles after giving him that contract but they also can't realistically make him stay in AAA for another month until rosters expand.

I wonder if Lou, against leftys, would ever entertain the idea of Bradley in CF, and Fox in Rf.

That would definitely be entertaining to watch, but I'm guessing we'd give up quite a few runs that way.

Why wouldn't they give Taguchi a shot in this situation?

Didn't they release him?

And yeah this isn't that big of a deal. He's not batting all that well this year anyway.

He has done well against left-handers again this year which is what he was signed to do. It's too bad they've stuck him out there against too many right-handers which has deflated his numbers.

If the Cubs can get Soto back soon though, the lineup against left-handers should still be strong enough without Reed there. It will be interesting to see how the Cubs will choose to structure the lineup against a left-hander now.

Theriot-Bradley seems like an obvious 1-2 vs. lefties. Doubt they will.

Castro? Do you mean Blanco?

Can they call Stevens backup to replace Johnson since it's a DL move?
I don't expect it, but they can. Normally he'd have to spend 10 days in the minors before being called back up, but not if it's to replace a player going on the DL. Earlier this season Fuld was called back up 1 day after being sent down for the same reason.

Yes, I know that part of the rule, but my question is does it work when it's a pitcher replacing a position player? If so, it makes the most sense. Stevens hasn't been overworked. He was coming off 2 days in a row, but has 1 day of rest. And Atkins doesn't provide much of anything.

Yea it still works regardless of who the injury is to, and who the player is coming back up.

It doesn't have to be pitcher for pitcher or position player for position player. I believe when Fuld came up it was to replace a pitcher. I didn't clarify that point in my earlier post.

Well then that is what they should do. They sent down Stevens and brought up Atkins only out of desperation to get a fresh arm. Kevin Gregg has had 3 days off. Marmol has had 2 days off and has pitched only 1 inning in 5 days. Stevens is fresh. Guzman could be pretty close to fresh, but could use another day I guess. Samardzija, Heilman and Marshall should probably get another day off. But Atkins serves no purpose right now and Stevens is probably more valuable to the team.

Good call Gooney, the Cubs have recalled Stevens

Uh, who plays CF if Fuku gets hurt?

In a scenerio like that, they could always move Soriano or Bradley over to finish out a game. Hell Theriot has taken flyballs out there before, and Id imagine Blanco could be moved out there.

We are facing a right handed starting pitcher for at least the next 6 of 7 games, so Fuku is going to get all the starts anyway, even if Reed was healthy.

Live with just Fuku today, then option Atkins for Fuld. Or just go ahead and do that today if you can.

I just dont see where Fuld fits on the team with Reeds injury. They need a RH CF not another lefty. If I had to guess, Fuld will stay down, and the Cubs will make a trade for a RH hitting CF who hits leftys really well.
