Soriano's defense, baserunning, and general IQ are a very underrated aspect of his game. :amen:

Lol, Soriano is the Forrest Gump of baseball.

I don't get all the venom towards him this morning on the sports radio I'm listening to. Yes he was having a bad game, everybody does. He played his typical sub par defense and looked lost at the plate. He was the only guy who came thru with a huge hit last night, tip your cap and celebrate it.

I think the animosity is due to his " safety dance " around the bases.

It was a huge hit, though.

I can see where it can be interpreted that way.

Celebrations after big plays don't really bother me for the most part, I think he was just having fun with his Cena impression etc. I think some leagues go to far to regulate some of those instances...cough NFL cough...

I agree, give the guy a break. He is having the roughest season of his career, he was 0-5 prior to that AB and he hit a huge walk off GS. Let him enjoy the moment.

I agree. It isn't necessarily how I would conduct myself, but my opinion and a fifth of Old Forrester will get you a lap dance at a truckstop.

Having said that, it would not schock me to see Oswalt plunk him today. :glare:

I do want make sure my point is clear that there certainly is a line where celebrations become excessive, I just don't think Sori's was.

Unless Soriano goes unconscious and slugs @ .700 for the rest of the year and in the playoffs people are going to be down on him. He's been terrible at the plate and in the field this year.

He looked terrible again last night until the HR.

I'd love nothing more for that to happen.

other than hitting the game-winning extra-inning grand slam, he didn't have a good game.

It doesn't matter what the outcome was as long as it was able to add a single run.

And no he didn't have a good game. 1-6 with 3ks (one of which was with a runner in scoring position).

I'm not sure if your just being your dickish self but I'd love to see you try and defend Soriano's performance this year.

Anytime a player hits a walk-off Grand Slam he had a good game.

No. He had a good at bat. One out of six.

From a purely sabermetric point of view, he had a .166 OBP and a .667 SLG for the game. Borderline productive.

The timing of the hit was beyond his control, so to speak.

Clutch has no predictive value, but when judging how valuable a player was, when the hit(s) happened is very important.

I'm gonna have to disagree with what the raw OPS would suggest on this one... a guy hitting a HR every 6 AB would have to be more than borderline productive

I saw a couple comments about his post-hr celebration and, if it's worth anything, some of his family was sitting right behind the plate so that's who he was pointing to after the HR. I still bet he gets a pitch in the ribs tonight, though.
